Was in paying my cable bill this morning and saw an ad that Delancer now has digital cable. Says you get more channels and better picture. Does anyone know the new list of channels and the cost for this new service? Anyone have it and notice an improvement? Any info is appreciated...thanks tom

Do you mind if I ask how much regular cable is with them?
I'd also like to know about their internet cost? And how reliable both their cable and internet are....
I'm going to have my Delancer cable and internet set up in the next little while....

The digi box is 700 or 750 pesos, the monthly cost is the same. There are more english speaking channels and the picture quality is better. My nieghbour has it already and my box will be installed on monday, last monday that is, in the words of Dianna Ross "I'm still waiting" LOL

Thanks for the information. When (IF?) you get it can you let us know the additional english channels. Do you pay additional for the extra channels like they do for Fox and ch 32?

To answer the other quesion, for cable I pay 780 pesos/month (100 extra for 2nd tv and 100 extra for fox)...

thanks again for this info...tom

An alternative?
Recently had SKY satellite installed for a total initial cost of about $4,000 pesos, 2 boxes for 2 tv's, and basic package for about $1,350 monthly(there are 3 packages, max cost about $1,800). When FTA went kaput had to change and didn't like experiences with DeLancer's service. So far so good with SKY, but not as good as the ole FTA for free, that's for sure. But it always works at least. Available island-wide as far as I know. Hooked up in one day, a world record.

tflea - What were the problems you had with Delancer's service?
Will the SKY satellite work anywhere?
I was told Delancer is the only option for the Perla Marina area....

SKY tells me they are nationwide. Should be able to get it at Perla Marina.
I don't want to specifically trash a local business, I'll just say they were slow to respond to problems when they arose and attitudes in their shop were like many places, uncaring and glaze eyed, with the 'ole shoulder shrug accompanied with the even more common, 'ya tu sabes'. That little phrase I can do without; thus, the change to SKY.

Digital Delancer

When a member here gets the digital service from Delancer (Cable Atlantico) it would be great to have a list of the english channels. Also, does anyone know when this service was available?

To respond to twhitehead,
Yes we have the new digital cable system. To get fox, showtime and 10 other channels (not sure what they are as we did not get this option) it is called an "international option" cost is 100RD more per box a month. Channel 32 is an extra charge all together (have no idea how much more).
The picture is better but not HD quality, there are more english channels (not many more) and the best part is that the remotes are new!

Good info! I've considered switching to SKY, had it in the UK but obviously it's not the same channel package here. What kind of channels do you get on your plan? Do you know who the supplier is in the Sosua area?
Thanks!

Does anybody know anything about the Claro Cable-Satellite box? Does it work via the DSL or telephone line or do you hook it up to a Satellite dish? What (english) channels are available? Is it available anywhere and can you use a regular Dishnetwork type dish?

And others concerned. I have the new Claro service in Santiago. When you go to Claro....they "first" check out your neighborhood to determine if its available where you live.
Second they make you sign a contract for 18 months. If the contract is broken before 18 months you have to pay $500.00(more or less). The young lady who represented Claro(and spoke english) flat out told me it was very expensive...what she wanted to say was "ridiculous".Since I have ()2 1080p tv's I was concerned about HDtv. I asked and was told they do not have High Definition now...I was told it was coming( ha ha).I have heard that before in DR.
After a "week"...they arrived. The only good thing and I can say is "VERY good" is they give you TIVO.....and you can program and "find" all the upcoming channels...program TIVO and record while you are asleep or away. You can then download you recorded movies to a USB removable drive to watch(which is what I "think" the USB drive is for). The drive "could " be for software upgrade. The instruction book and the installers are all in espanol. I was able to re-program the remote control to english.
Now for the last two comments. You can only use one box for "one" tv..it reminds you of Directv boxes. The picture quality is not 720p or 1080p but a helluva lot better then Astor...I notice they mention HDtv on screen. I need someone to interpret what it means. They claim to give you HBO...but it says you have to call to get it to work(more money)....they give you one sports channel as a premium and it last for one month(then you have to pay for it/promotional).
Would I recommend it to anyone......Hell no....I signed up for it before nfusion came out with the new bins that bring back FTA.
If I were anyone I would stay away from it...."I enjoy the TIVO for $50.00" a month.......most channels are similar to ASTOR...just clearer and do not allow you to use but one box. In the states they would not go out of business with this crap...they would never be able to get "into business". It sucks.....I am not unhappy because I can switch between my upgraded nfusion(which is what I am watching now) and record favorite abc cbs and nbc etc. channels in TIVO .
My advice to all reading stay away from Claro and get a nfusion or Sonicview and what you pay for a new fta you will pay Claro in two months of service at $50.00 a month.

Thanks!

They came from Santiago to install, I'll have to find the phone # to post.
You could probably Google it or Bing it; SKY Dominicana or something.
We get 4 or 5 news channles, some premium movie channels, Fox, ESPN, ESPN 2 and Int'l, a couple of porn channels, some local channels, lots of soccer and other stuff. It's OK, nothing special. They have a brochure with all available for the 3 optional packages.
