where is bahai maimon close too thinking about staying at the riu merengue its well cheap whats the closest towns and how close are they thanks

Going East, the RIU hotels are about 5 minutes from Cofresi or 10 minutes from Puerto Plata, by car. Puerto Plata airport is about 35 minutes from the RIU's. Sosua is about 45 minutes and Cabarete about one hour.

Going South - Santiago is about 1hr away, Santo Domingo about 3hours.

is there much to do around this area the hotel sounds nice but im looking to be closer to more livlier towns what do you reccomend

The RIU hotels are lovely hotels but a bit out of the way. If you want to be able to walk to the "livelier" parts and it's the north coast you want then you should check out Puerto Plata, Sosua or Cabarete!

Puerto Plata is your safest bet for getting to a nearby town. Not much to do in the actual hotel area itself.
