I've been on the North Coast from around Luperon east to the vicinity of Rio San Juan and it occured to me that I hadn't seen any pelicans!(my fav bird). Could someone clue me in as to what part of the D.R. they can be found. How about Las Terrenas?

Pelicans follow the fish and or the boats that are looking for and those who have captured fish.

In the Florida Keys we bring serious fireworks to disuade the pelicans to knot eat our bait wich is thin strips of squid and we throw the following at them, but to no avail.

M-98 CRACKERS Fireworks

The goofey birds still jump at the bait and if you have ever done some serious fishing you will never forget the experience of landing a Pelican on light tackle...wow what an ariel flight...there comes a point where you have to cut the line but those dopey birds just do not respond to instrucutions in Spanish!

These birds are highly intelligent and also creative.

I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale and every year there was an anual U.S. Air & Sea Show on the beach and the pelicans would flock together in formations mirrioring that of what they have been watching and in perfect formation.

The different planes fly offshore for safety reasons but the pelicans fly right in front of the 300k tourists watching on the beach ....these guys were total show offs and they actually have different colored crowns and sometimes you would see them group by by color...the yellow blondes seem to be the superior in looks, intelligence and creativitey...go figure!
