Is this process currently being used on a larger scale in the DR? I see many rural folks still cooking with wood and charcoal.

No, I think nobody there know about this method yet.

It is very well known about here - especially in Haiti.
There are many people trying to do this with all sorts of organic waste and various crops grown specially for the purpose.

It is, on the face of it, a marvelous idea.
It never seems to get going substantially, however.

Charcoal and wood use on the island is not what it seems.

For example, Haiti's rural poor do not generally cook with charcoal - I will probably set of a war by saying this but if you do not beleive me - go take a look.
