I'm coming down to the DR for the weekend of New Years and was wondering if anything special will be going on. I usually stay in Sosua but everything is booked so I'm staying over in Caberete. I will have a car, as always, so getting around is no problem.

I've been to the north coast many times in the past but never for New Years Eve, so I was wondering if any special celebrations, like a times square ball drop or huge party on the beach like in Rio take place?

In general just how do Dominicans bring in the New Year? I haven't seen any talk on this sight about New Years eve so is this even a good time to come down?

Jose O'shays in Cabarete has music and fireworks on the beach.

Last year they had a prime rib dinner and all you could drink special

It's a very good time to come down as everyone celebrates the holidays and new years!

I was on a plane flying back to Santo Domingo last year over new years eve

just being on the plane with the Dominicans was better than most of the parties that i have been to in the States

You can expect all beach bars and restaurants in Cabarete to have some sort of special celebration. Jose O'Shays New Years Dinner party, $120 per couple, Prime Rib and all you can drink till 1am (as per advert in AdSense).

Thanks for the info, I will be there for New Years Eve but not sure where I'll be celebrating the night. The little bit I've been able to find out is that SDQ seems to be the place for bringing in the new year in the DR. But I will drop by and make a cash donation to the toy effort when I'm in Sosua.

I like crowds so I'm looking for the biggest party on the north coast for new years eve. What is POP usually like on new years eve?

If you like crowds then you should love this:

Roncierto Brugal

The traditional Roncierto Brugal, the year's end bash, 31 December, will feature bands playing salsa, merengue and bachata this year. The concert is in its 10th year. For the evening, stating at 9pm, the Johnny Ventura, El Jeffrey, Luis Vargas, Los Hermanos Rosario, Tono Rosario and Raulin Rosendo bands will put on a free show for the Dominican public. The production will be televised on Supercanal 33 and Supercanal Caribe for the United States. It is booked for the front gardens of the Columbus Lighthouse on the eastern side of the Ozama River.

If you're on the North Coast and want a huge party with a big crowd, there's no question...go to the beach in Cabarete. There will be thousands of people partying until the wee hours with several big after hours parties (usually at El Rocon, Embocca, and The Casino) going until well after sunrise. Lots of music, booze, people, fireworks at midnight and everything else you could want...if you like crowds ;)
