El Caribe reports accusations of sexual molestation from 14 different minors have been filed against a Catholic priest in Janico. One parent of an 11 year old said his son reported being fondled by the priest. Another 15 year old boy reported being forced to wear a tanga (thong) and model it at gunpoint.

Threats have been made to burn the parish, and there is talk of suing the church for damages.
The archbishop in Santiago is calling for a complete investigation.

The priest travelled recently to Poland, but only an adult and some children that accompanied him returned. The priest was said not to have returned due to illness.

A search of the priest's room yielded thongs, porn movies, alcohol, sedatives, a computer hard drive, and ten passports.

Something tells me the Pervert Paedophile Priest won't be returning from Poland.

Burning the church? I would suggest putting the building to a better use.

If I read correctly, the article indicated he promised trips to Europe. Although not stated in the article it is perhaps likely the passports found were for others, not alternate passports for him. Also, it appears he was involved in a child rescue type program with 180 kids. I'm not sure that he had a church as such, and the article said there were threats to burn the "parish" which perhaps refers to where he lived and not an actual church. At least with my Spanish, that was unclear.

i met the guy. it is very sad for me to read this. he had so many good things going on in the community. it's a shock what was going on behind this facade...

i cannot understand why all this. parents seem to reports the kids told them this and that. when? now? why not before, when those things were happening? and if the kids said all this before, why did parents not inform the police straight away? so much evil and abuse could have been avoided if everyone spoke up from the first moment!

i do not know what to say. as a polak i am ashamed.

this thread should be moved to living, btw. this is not off topic.

Sickens all of us. We repeatedly hear how most pedophiles are very nice, friendly, pillars of the community, etc.--they make sure of it to earn the trust of the very parents they are going to betray. Tragically the molestor usually isn't the creepy guy on the corner even kids know to stay away from, but someone within the circle of their normal life.

Will Poland send him to the DR to face justice? (By justice I mean whatever his cellmates dish out to him.)

i don't know. polish news sites did not pick up the story for all i can see... i think the chances that he'll be deported are very low...

What's his tie in to Poland? They said the name is Alberto Gil...does not sound Polish to me.

Even if he got caught before he skipped to Poland, there would be very little repercussions. The church protects them and we all know how powerful the church is in The DR. The only thing they do is just transfer him to another parish where he can start all over again...

Oh I see...I was reading the other article. I know we live in a "global village", but how in the world does a Polish guy gets named Alberto Gil or is it maybe not his real name?

Yes, I am asking that myself. Maybe his mother was Polish and married a Dominican or Spanish guy and then moved to the DR. Who knows. My daughter has a completely Spanish sounding with the exception of the part that is my surname.

EU countries usually extradite their citizens only within the EU, e.g. Poland to Germany or France to Italy, and not to third countries. I think he won't be extradited.

his name is kind of correct here: Z 101
discard alberto. i believe it may be his middle name, misspelled from polish albert. but because dominicans believe in two names, two surnames rule foreigners with two names and one surname or two surnames and one name are often named in the media in the most confusing sequence possible...

ha ha, i know. i have only one name and one surname (typically polish). say, anna kowalska. i have never seen my name written correctly here, so far. dominicans are convinced i should have two surnames, like god intended. so they usually write anna kowa lska. they split my surname in most bizzare manner....

On the subject of two last names, I was helping someone yesterday who was supposed to fly to Tampa today. The person who booked his ticket used his second last name for the reservation, and his Dominican passport has his father's last name as his first apellido.

We tried calling AA, and they said, come to the office in Santiago (we're in Puerto Plata), but no promises. From what I heard (someone else took over at that point) the original person who did the booking had to pay for a reservation change to get the last name right.
