Today's DR1 News carries this story, and their link makes a lot more sense, as it includes Haitians:

Foreigners leaving voluntarily

The Director General of Migration has revealed that more than 70,000 foreigners who were living in the Dominican Republic illegally have left voluntarily for their homelands.

Major General Ruben Dario Paulino Sem said that the foreigners who had left included Haitians, Cubans, Mexicans, US citizens, Peruvians, Colombians and Afghans. He confirmed that as instructed by President Danilo Medina, whoever wanted to leave voluntarily had been assisted in the process by the Migration Department.

He also confirmed that four Syrians, who had entered into the country on false documents and had not been allowed to stay in other countries, were still here. As there were no direct flights from the Dominican Republic to Syria, they were trying to send them to Brazil, but the Brazilian authorities were refusing to grant them entry, even though they would only be in transit.

He went on to say that they were speaking to several countries to try and get them a transit visa so that they could return to Syria, but so far nothing had been possible.

However, the next article in DR1 News today says that about 10,000 Haitians have left. So they say 60,000 "others" have left. Not sure I'm buying that.

More Haitians leaving

Almost 10,000 undocumented Haitians living in the Dominican Republic have returned to their country, as reported in Haiti Libre. The media cites data collected by a joint monitoring work from three human rights organizations working at the border: the Support Group for Returnees and Refugees (GARR), the Jesuit Refugee and Migrants Service (JRS), the Jeannot Success Border Network (RFJS) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

As reported, during November 2015, 9,012 Haitians with irregular migratory status living in the Dominican Republic have returned to Haiti. This involved 3,191 repatriations and 5,821 voluntary returns.

This figure included 174 unaccompanied minors, most of who were living in Las Matas de Farfan, Santo Domingo, Santiago and San Juan de la Maguana. The number of Haitians repatriated by Dominican immigration authorities was down for the month of November by 25% on October when there were 4,344 repatriations.

There has also been a significant increase in voluntary returns in November compared to the previous month, with an increase of 47% over October this year when there were 3,053.
