The biggest industry here in Sosua and Cabarete is tourism. The town had the same problems ten years ago but there were more tourists coming here. The so called fixes the major and whatever are doing correlates with a decline in tourism to the area. Not saying there is a cause or effect relationship... But people here need jobs. There are two large land parcels in Cabarete where the beach and swimmiing is possible and available for large hotel development. If tourism department would allow taller structures, there is room for even better tourist hotels. Electricity and water service could be vastly improved. Whatever is going on with the head of Toursim in Santo Domingo, I hope he switches from what he does not want to doing something to make things happen... It will not take a lot of new tourists arriving here to make a positive impact.
