To all those who are interested:
This thread has completely lost it's objective unfortunately because I do believe the OP just wanted some opinions and perceptions about a seemingly deep rooted problem to add to his/ her research. There are some thoughtfully constructive comments by Yansser, Deelt & Mario, however, the discussion is no longer about Dominicans and Puerto Ricans. A few are still struggling with issues that I agree may need resolution but going back & forth comment after comment is not the solution (and to add to that much of what is stated by some is completely outrageous).
I would like to suggest a book that I think CLEARLY sheds light on the issue of race and many other problems in Latin America but all intrinsically related and relevant to the topics discussed in the book.
Title: Las raices torcidas de Latinoamerica
Author: Carlos Alberto Montaner
Available at: Amazon.com & Barnes & Nobles.com (may be Borders Bookstore)
I strongly recommend this reading if you truly are interested in why issues such as race and many others has plagued Latin America since colonialism.
