I want to share interesting news for everyone here. This was announced by MetroRD Subway:

First 6 wagons are on the way! From July, we will receive 6 new wagons monthly, culminating with the 72 trains that form part of the expansion of the capacity of MetroSD. These wagons are docked in the Port of Valencia and manufactured by Barcelona-based Alstom. By the end of September and early October, we will have the first trains circulating with 6 wagons, thus eliminating the hateful queues and translating this into more comfortable and efficient transport.

New improvement elevator for all subway stations is now in works. Annoumcenet:

By the end of September, you will enjoy a completely renewed vertical transport on the Santo Domingo Metro and Cableway.
Thanks to our vertical transport re-adaptation and maintenance plan, we are pleased to inform you that there are only 8 escalators out of service of a total fleet of 212 that make up the Integrated Transport System.

In addition, we have managed to reduce the number of out-of-service lifts from 38 to 24, from a total of 104 lifts system-wide. As part of our actions, we are intervening the 17 elevators exposed outside of Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro to adapt them appropriately to the Caribbean climate. This way electromechanical components will no longer be affected by heat, meaning these problems will be a thing of the past.

We continue to transform public transport in our country!

Growing pains.
They are really progressing well on the Alcarizzo section. I drove by yesterday and it is really taking shape. They said the tunnel digging is progressing according to plan as well.
I'm guessing the elevated part will be finished first.
The cable cars were in full view and everyone looked like it was full.

Santo Domingo.- In order to keep the population informed about the progress of the project for Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro to Los Alcarrizos, the executive director of the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET), Eng. Rafael Santos Pérez reported this Sunday that the excavation work in the interconnection tunnel exceeds 400 meters to date.

"To this day we have more than 400 linear meters of tunnel and we continue to advance with the new portal that will allow us to have three attack fronts on it, reducing its construction time," Santos Pérez said during a tour of the construction site.

Regarding the stations, Santos Pérez indicated that all the box girders have already been placed and in all of them work is being done on the placement of metal arches, with 95% of these installed. "It is pertinent to point out that all the arches are manufactured and, in addition, we are proceeding with the formwork of the upper decks (slabs)," he stated.

He also detailed the progress made in the construction of piles, piles and heads where "we already have 78% of the piles emptied and 65% of the columns erected, with 58% of heads".

Regarding the beams, the official added that 63% have been built and are proceeding to be placed on site.

About the project

The work, in charge of the Office for the Reordering of Transportation (OPRET), would be inaugurated at the beginning of 2024 and covers a stretch of 7.3 kilometers, as well as the construction of five stations, which will form part of the Metro Integrated Transportation System – Cable car of Santo Domingo.

Its execution has generated more than 2,000 direct jobs, with an approximate investment of about 500 million dollars.

The new route is made up of 5 stations. This new extension of Line 2 (called 2C) will relieve traffic from Los Alcarrizos to kilometer 9 (María Montez Station).

The project contemplates the adaptation of the roads adjacent to the marginal, to produce a better flow of vehicles.

Thanks to this initiative, road safety will be increased and user congestion will be reduced at kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway. With this there will also be a considerable reduction in CO2 emissions and air pollution.

Here's Bill Lockwood's latest on the metro. Germany would like to install to the airport that would continue into Caucedo and be used for containers. Fascinating.

I agree and it's a very good idea to use the railway to move freight. But I feel sorry for those poor German engineers who would have to come here for three years, Germans are so accurate and so on time, I can only imagine the pain they would feel working with Dominicans on this project.
