Just curious...is all of this (above posts) worth the stress level one needs to go thru?? Seriously, I work at street reduction everyday of my life.
Only questioning stress to value metrics.

I don’t know if you can substitute another router. My speed is around 150, and through a concrete wall it drops to about
60. Around 60 feet away at the pool, the speed is around 50. Whenever you add an extender, you will lose some speed.
As far as the location, when I set it up, I just moved the location on the map. Once you do that and plug it in, you just need to be patient while it finds a satellite. Maybe 15-30 minutes the first time. Sometimes a lot less. It is also downloading the latest software when you first install it, which is why I suspect you may not be able to use another brand of router. But I do not know for sure.
Not only can you use a different router, but you can change the settings so it will be much faster:

Remember...2700/mo isn't cheap but in my case, I dropped an expensive product DISH

Oh BTW, when I was canceling they said I could drop my bill from $150 to $85.......... I would still drop it

and you get the faster service if you need it

What IP addresses are you Starlink users in the DR getting?
Depending on how up to date the geo location databased used, they show up as either from Dominican Republic or some very rare times from the USA. Starlink is able to have IP from two different countries using the same base station (see the base stations in the northern USA for example, they hand USA IPs to USA customers and Canadian IPs to folks in Canada)

Pretty easy to hook it all up, right?

Now you need to look at what Greg Volt has to offer.
I didn't hook it up JD..... ladder to the roof, screw it into the cement.....job that out !!

Once I got the service location changed, went like a charm.

I have DreamLink for the TV..... my installer was promoting them....an IPTV thing I guess........ channels galore !!

How about a couple photos of the install.
Why did you have to change locations ?
What was your overall cost for getting the equipment and any mounting hardware ?
And how are the speeds ?

Install is on the roof... beside the solar panels.... screwed into the cement roof

Original user site was listed as the delivery address..... had to change to my lat/long stats.
The little dish needs to know because it seeks the satellites and needs to know where it is - I guess

Equipment is quoted above somewhere,.... was charged 3,000 for the install..... roof and electric hook-up
All the necessary parts are included in the package

Speeds are just under 200

2700/mo for service

My TV is DreamLink

OK
I thought Starlink was only 1800 monthly in DR.
Why electrical hookup needed?
I thought the dish was powered through the Starlink router box

Electrical powers the router that powers the little dish

You're losing it Chico
You're way late to be informing me of that.
I'm way past my "use by' date.

As Jim Carey said in Dumb and Dumber when the cop pulled alongside and shouted" Pull Over":
"No cardigan, but thanks for noticing".

I see Elon has blocked Ukrainians from using Starlink for military targeting and drone control.
While many people may support Ukraine, I think this is a wise move on his part.

The service was intended for civilian purposes and if the Ukrainians need internet for their fighting then Europe should provide that.

Starlink should remain neutral and be used for paid (or free in some poor countries) internet access, like it is by the many who are now using it in DR.
Otherwise Starlink satellites could become military targets and service in many areas could cease.

Anyone from the North Coast ordered Starlink recently? I have one and it works fine. A client wanted me to order a set for him, but now StarLink web site only accepts pre-orders for POP-Sosua-Cabarete areas. Cabrera and Samana also waitlisted. I can see I can order if I include Gaspar Hernandes or Rio San Juan as the requested service area. Anyone tried to change the service address recently? I want to order it for Rio San Juan and then once received here want to change the service address to Sosua. Is it possible? Or will I get stuck with the Starlink kit and unable to change the service area?
Below are two screenshots taken of the attempted orders now - one for Sosua area and the other one for Rio San Juan. See the difference.

On another subject if anyone is interested.

My Starlink router just quit working. While waiting for replacement (it's on the way and suppose to arrive next Monday) I managed to connect my own router directly to Starlink dish by taking a chance of cutting the end of the antenna cable where it goes into the router, re-crimped it with standard RJ45 connector (swapping blue and green wires), plugged it into a gigabit POE injector and connected a 55V DC power supply. It worked. There are plenty of detailed instructions on YouTube and facebook and just by searching google.
This is particuary useful if you are in campo on solar energy and want to avoid double conversion DC-AC and back to DC. It can run on 48 to 60 VDC.
