Celebrities in the Dominican Republic For a long time the Dominican Republic has been a hot spot for tourists from
across the globe. Many come to enjoy a few weeks in the sun, and enjoy the
colorful Caribbean atmosphere that can be found in the Dominican Republic.
But the Dominican Republic has also gained a reputation for being a welcoming
site for many of the world’s biggest stars and celebrities. Many of these
superstars enjoy the same sun and colorful atmosphere that “regular” tourists
come to enjoy, but it is the promise of anonymity and escape from their hectic
lives in the spotlight, that attracts many stars to come and relax in the DR.
Stars count on the fact that they won’t be hassled by mobs of reporters and
fans, and the ultra-lavish comforts of exclusive hideaways at Casa Del Campo,
for example, guarantee privacy for these famous figures.
Even the real estate market and investment opportunities have been catching the
eyes of many of the celebrities who make a stop here in the DR. From small
oceanfront villas to large country estates, and everything in between, the DR
has become a playground for the world’s rich and very famous.
Among the personalities to grace the island with their presence are icons like
Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Sting, Carlos Santana, George Hamilton, Robert
De Niro, Michael Douglas, and Julio Iglesias. Jackson, if you recall, actually
got married to Elvis Presley’s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in a private
ceremony in 1994, and Julio Iglesias, the world famous Spanish singer, owns
property in the DR, and has even become a Dominican citizen.
Athletes like Michael Jordan, Barry Bonds, Mike Tyson, and Jack Nicklaus have
been among the some of the sports world’s brightest to travel south to the DR.
Even politicians, billionaires and royalty have found their way to the Dominican
Republic. Former presidents Bill Clinton and George H. Bush have made frequent
visits to the island, along with the King of Morocco, his Majesty Mohammad IV,
who recently threw a party for 300 members of his court on the island. Also seen
enjoying the Caribbean sun is billionaire Bill Gates.
Singers like Chayanne, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Enrique
Iglesias, Shakira and Ja Rule, have also come to enjoy the beauties of this
Caribbean nation.
American actors like Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Vanessa Williams, Vin Diesel,
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Chris Tucker, Andy Garcia, Matt Dillon, William
Baldwin, Giancarlo Esposito, Mimi Rogers, Joe Pantoliano, Robert Davi and Marcia
Gay Harden have also been spotted wandering along some of the Dominican
Republic’s streets and beaches.
Even radio show host Rush Limbaugh has been to the island. Limbaugh, who has
been steeped in controversy over prescription drugs, was recently caught with a
prescription for Viagra under someone else’s name while leaving the Dominican
Republic.
With the rise in the reputation of the DR as a welcoming place for celebrities
and the increased investments from them on the island, it can be assured that
stars will continue to vacation here for years to come.
