I have stayed at the Hotel Plaza Europa at least a dozen times over the last three years and have always found it satisfactory.

I know that there are a number of reviews here that speak badly of the hotel, but I think it is all a question of expectations.

The rooms are spacious and have (obviously) bathrooms with showers, TV, air conditioning, refrigerator and cooking facilities. The cooking equipment is pretty minimal, though you do get a coffee pot, but I have found that management will help you out if you want something more. I suspect that most guests don't want to cook much in the rooms.

TV has numerous channels in several languages.

Beds are nothing special, but I have always slept OK there. The maids do a good job of cleaning the rooms, and if something is not working they will fix it for you.

The pool is always clean and provides a very refreshing dip when you get overheated. It is mostly shaded, which is good in a hot climate.

At current time (October 2006) the restaurant is under the management of expatriates from the US and Israel and has been renamed Quixote's. The food and service is pretty good, though it is not especially cheap. You can use their laptop computers and wireless internet (with you own portable if you like) for a modest fee.

Management seems to do a fairly good job of maintaining and improving the rooms. Some are better than others, but they do seem to have a regular program of upgrading and investing in the property.

The front desk staff are friendly and multilingual.

One of the chief attractions of the hotel is that guests are allowed to bring in local guests (i.e. women) to their rooms, so there is no point denying this. Hence this hotel appeals mostly to the single man.

On the other hand I have always stayed there with my girlfriend and in several visits I have NEVER seen (or heard) anything unseemly or embarrassing in the realms of improper behavior. At least no worse than any other vacation resort hotel.

When you consider that the room rate is in the region of $40 per night, this place is a terrific bargain and I would recomment it to anyone who is looking for reasonable priced accommodations in Sosua.
