Villa Taina celebrates 20 years
Villa Taina at Cabarete Beach in the northern province of Puerto Plata is proud to announce that it is celebrating its 20th year of operation. General director Claudia Schwarz says that the hotel, which opened with 14 rooms in May 1996, has since grown to 61 rooms and now includes a kite surfing and windsurfing school, and a massage center. The hotel's Serenade Bar and Restaurant right on the beach offers weekly themed nights: Mongolian Grill (fish, meat and vegetable grills on Wednesdays), Lobster & Shrimps (Fridays), Argentinian Grill (Saturdays), and a Dominican Buffet (Sundays).

Amhsa Marina to build luxury hotel in Las Galeras
Dominican hotel chain Amhsa Marina has announced that construction of the Kaeni Beach Hotel, a five star all-inclusive with 336 rooms expected be the most luxurious establishment in Las Galeras, Samana will start in May 2016. Ahmsa Marina already operates the Amhsa Marina Grand Paradise all-inclusive resort in Las Galeras.
The hotel is scheduled to open in September 2017. When making the announcement at the Dominican Annual Travel Exchange (DATE) held in Punta Cana last week, marketing director Mariel Lopez said that all rooms would have ocean views. The new hotel will also include an entertainment center with a spa, gymnasium, theater, disco, restaurants, shops and a meeting center with capacity for up to 400 people.
The hotel chain also operates the Casa Marina Beach and Casa Marina Reef in Sosua, the Grand Paradise Playa Dorada in Puerto Plata and the Select at Grand Paradise in Las Galeras, Samana.
Conde Nast chooses to Playa Grande hotels for its 2016 hot list
Few people in the Dominican Republic are aware that the two new Playa Grande hotels that opened last year, the Aman hotel chain's Amanera and the Playa Grande Beach Club, have already made it to the exclusive Conde Nast Traveler Hot List for 2015 World's Best New Hotels. Announcing the choice, Conde Nast highlights the polished minimalism and obsessive attention to detail, plus panoramic beach views from Cliffside pool and bungalows at the Amanera. In its assessment of the Playa Grande Beach Club Conde Nast mentions the hotel's "preppy elegance."

Casa Bonita sponsors Xterra Triathlon
Polibio Schiffino of Casa Bonita Tropical Lodge has announced that the second phase of the Dominican Republic Xterra Triathlon and Trail Run will start on 21-22 May 2016 hosted at the facilities of the Blue JackTar Hotel in Playa Dorada, Puerto Plata. The race then continues on to Barahona, with Casa Bonita hosting the participants for the final phase of the event scheduled for 30-31 July 2016. The first phase of the race took place in Las Terrenas on 12-13 March.
Schiffino highlighted that the Xterra is the leader in off-road events of this kind, with tours in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Competitors in the Dominican race accumulate points for the Pan American championship and slots in the world championships in Maui, Hawaii. The competitors who are expected for the event include world Xterra champion Josiah Middaugh and others in the top ten including Branden Rakita, Myriam Guillot, Mauricio Mendez Cruz and Rom Akerson.
Schiffino said that Casa Bonita had decided to sponsor the event because it will help to diversify the country's tourism options and promotes the Dominican Republic as an adventure tourism destination abroad.
