The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) is telling most of the country to brace for a strong tropical storm. Wind gusts, torrential rains and possible flooding and landslides are expected the evening of Wednesday, on Thursday and into the weekend. The storm is very large yet disorganized as it moves west towards the Dominican Republic from Puerto Rico’s southern waters.

As per the 5pm forecast by the National Meteorological Office (Onamet), the storm was trekking at 75kph. It was located 860 kilometers from Saona Island. As of that time, it had not yet reached named storm category. But forecasters expect it to do so as it crosses the country.

Gloria Ceballos, director of Onamet said that the storm had not yet reached tropical storm category because it had a closed circular movement. The center of the storm has yet to be located. Nevertheless, the speeds of its winds...
