2020 is a year when for almost six months, the Dominican economy practically was at a standstill. Nevertheless, Customs Agency (DGA) reports that collections were RD$127.49 billion, only 11.59% less than the R$144.22 billion in 2019.

The Customs Agency said that the upturn came with the start of the new government in August. Then collections went from RD$467.1 million in August 2020 to RD$733.04 million by December 2020. “This shows the effort underway for more efficient management to benefit foreign trade,” explains DGA in a press release.

“From 17 August 17 to 31 December 2020, the DGA collected RD$58.34 billion, which represents 46% of the year’s income in only 137 days. That is, almost half of the year’s income,” said its director, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón.
