President Luis Abinader has created the Committee for the Preservation of the Colonial City. The entity is responsible for decision-making for the management and administration of the patrimonial and urban heritage of the historic area.

The committee was created through Decree 283-21. It replaces the Patronato de la Ciudad Colonial, the Fondo para la Protección de la Ciudad Colonial and the Comisión Rectora de la Ciudad Colonial, designated under past governments.

The new entity is presided by the Minister of Tourism (David Collado). Other members are the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo (Francisco Ozoria), who will serve as vice-president, the Mayor’s Office of Santo Domingo (Carolina Mejía) will be the secretary and an executive director, who will serve as treasurer.
