Klen Ramirez was allowed to post bail of RD$1 million as preventive custody in the recent Valle Nuevo forest fire case. The farmer is accused of using fire to clear his land and the fire spread to nearby forests.

The Court of Instruction of the Judicial District of Azua imposed the preventive measure in response to the accusatory file presented by Eusebio Corcino Alcántara, coordinator of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Defense of the Environment and Natural Resources (Proedemaren) for the province of Azua. Ramírez is accused of violating the provisions of Environment Law 64-00.

The fire would spread to the Valle Nuevo National Park, causing a forest fire destroying forests in a large section of the protected area.
