Roadside bar-lounge where the tragedy occurred / El Caribe

The Ministry of Interior & Police ordered the temporarily closed the roadside bar-lounge in Bastida, Azua where six people so far are reported dead after a truck loaded with avocados plunged into the entertainment business at 1am on Sunday, 1 September 2024. The lounge was full of people there to have a good time. The authorities say there are 37 injured, several still in regional hospitals.

In his weekly press conference on 2 September 2024, President Luis Abinader acknowledged tragedies such as this one will continue as long as businesses and houses continue to be built and operated beside main roads.
