Eddy Olivares Ortega, former member of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), and spokesperson for former President Hipolito Mejia, was named Minister of Labor by Executive Decree 48-25. The appointment is effective 26 February 2025.
Olivares is a graduate in law from the UASD state university. He has a masters in Constitutional Law from the PUCMM and the Castilla La Mancha university in Spain.
From 2006 to 2016 he served as a member of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and in recent years has been spokesperson for former President Hipólito Mejía. He is a vice president and executive coordinator of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
Previously, he served as prosecutor for Santo Domingo, and he has been secretary (serving in the capacity of legal counsel) before the division that created the National District and the province of Santo Domingo.
