A manhunt was underway for the driver of a red Daihatsu truck, license plate L192615, who is suspect of reckless driving that resulted in the death of at least 11 people in a horrific accident in Las Yayas de Azua, Diario Libre reported. Ángel Encarnación Bautista would eventually turn himself to the Digesett agency in Azua. Around 40 others were injured. Six persons have been identified of the victims toll.

The driver, first identified as Angel “Patico,” reportedly had fled the scene after the truck plowed into a group of people gathered outside a beer establishment on the Azua-San Juan highway at around 1am on Sunday, 1 September 2024.
