The state of NJ lottery rules require that the winner's name and city be of public knowledge. It says so right on their website.
On that note, there are ways around everything. You can set up a trust i.e., "Mangu, LLC or Mangu Family Trust" and collect and administer the winnings in the name of that trust. You do not have to appear yourself.

I hope he stays out of the limelight for a while. He is putting his family in DR or elsewhere in danger.

This is why you don't want to sign on the spot and you should ask lawyers and tax advisers how to collect. There will be little fees but it will save you a lot of headache. I know you have to eventually give your name and sign somewhere but if confusing amount of people are under the list of trust LLC etc and the trust collects the lottery, news probably give up on process since it's too much digging up for not such a big news. One person winning $338 millions and one trust with 10 people on the lists will make less attractive news company to dig up dirt.

THAT is the real issue. He's too well known now to be in danger himself, but if he still has close relatives in The DR then he's looking for trouble big time.

Somewhere I read that his current wife is Mexican, so he may be tempted to "escape" to Mexico. That would be an even bigger mistake as over there they really have the kidnapping thing down to a science. His best bet is to move to another state in The US, keep a VERY low profile, as Playa said let his counsel handle all requests for money and get second set of lawyers to check on the first ones to ensure he's not being taken to the cleaners, that he's paying all required taxes, taking advantage of tax loopholes, etc.

I heard on a Spanish television station that he is going to fight for custody of the kids he had to pay the $29,000 in child support for, adding even more unnecessary drama to his life.

Good luck with that one, brother. Someone must have told him it would be less expensive for him if had custody, no doubt a lawyer who's looking forward to the tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees it will cost Pedro to fight such a case.

The news is also reporting that Pedro promised to pay the rent of all of his neighbors in Passaic for a "month or two".
That's a lot of rent, lol!

Vote for Pedro!

This was reported before April 1st. So, I don't think the good people of Passaic is going to find that funny, hahaha. Don't forget the warm and loving people of Jarabacoa who would also like their "rent paid".

His wanting to take custody of the kids could be a ploy in avoiding a substantial increase in child support payments.
Powerball winner Pedro Quezada riches will be cut down by $29,000 in past-due child support, and thousands more per year could be claimed - NY Daily News

You know when the Judge in your case is giving you advice on being "careful", you should take heed! It usually takes appx. 3-4 weeks after claiming the winning ticket to actually get paid, so I don't even think he received a check yet. This guy is all over on CNN and different news agencies, Jeeesh!

So much for keeping a low profile.

He is either getting lousy legal advice, or ignoring good legal advice.

Either way, unless an epiphany occurs for this guy, he will be a heck of a lot poorer in 5 years...if he lasts that long.

Lottery winners of this magnitutde are both blessed and cursed.

Can't wait for him to return to Jarabacoa....now that will be an interesting homecoming.

Boy, were you right - the last sentence made me laugh out loud "20 million can't be located":

Laywer: Passaic Powerball Winner’s Money Almost Gone
By Townsquare News Network November 11, 2013 6:34 AM

A New Jersey man who won a $338 million Powerball jackpot, among the largest lottery winnings, is embroiled in a court fight with his former girlfriend over the money.

Pedro Quezada
Powerball winner Pedro Quezada (WABC TV)
Pedro Quezada of Passaic was the sole winner of the Powerball drawing last spring, worth about $152 million after taxes.

His lawyer argues that Inez Sanchez has no claim to the money because the couple were never married.

But attorneys for Sanchez say Quezada purchased the ticket based on the couple’s shared earnings. Sanchez and Quezada lived together for 10 years, have a child together, and shared ownership of a grocery store in Passaic, attorneys say.

Superior Court Chancery Judge Margaret Mary McVeigh refused to dismiss the lawsuit and she denied a request from Sanchez to freeze Quezada’s lottery winnings, pending the outcome of a trial to determine if she is entitled to a share of the money, The Record reported Saturday.

The judge said Friday that while the couple’s relationship was long-term and Sanchez contributed to the household, the court has no legal framework for restraining Quezada’s assets.

Sanchez has moved out of the recently purchased Clifton home the couple shared and has filed a domestic violence claim against Quezada, The Record reported. Quezada’s attorney declined to comment on that claim.

Sanchez’s attorney says that a large chunk of the lottery winnings is already gone, claiming $57 million has been sent to Quezada’s native Dominican Republic, $5 million was given away, $300,000 was spent on the home in Clifton, and $20 million can’t be located, the newspaper reported.

At the same time, if some b*tch was after my money, I would also claim that it is gone (or the money would really be gone in some offshore account somewhere certainly not the DR, lol).

Well, whenever there's money involved, lawsuits will follow. The 20 million dollars that
can't be located is most likely stashed in a swiss bank account.

LOL.
Lottery should do an IQ test before they pay out. Those that doesn't know how to manage large sums of money shouldn't be allowed to claim at all. Before he knows it he will be in bankrupt. IRS should know or don't care about where his money went but they sure will be knocking on his door soon and asking their cut...

Man If I had won...
Now that I thought about this again, I will buy an island somewhere and just stay low for a while or better yet buy a super yacht and cruise for a while and dock as I wish and go as I wish. Winning that kind of money attracts way too many unwanted eyes and best thing to do is just get away. You can probably payoff the boat, fill up on supply & gas and pay captains and crew members and get spending money on just interest or on a low risk investment and nobody would know where in the world you are. And when everything becomes somewhat quiet and can live off of somewhat quietly, then think about charity.

The guy is stupid! He should have given her a few million, maybe had her sign a contact that stated it was a gift and she was entitled to nothing more..I bet it would have worked, just show her the cash! Now? he's screwed for sure!! any court will find common law, 1/2 is hers period! anyways, these people are just stupid in general, referring to lottery winners..come on! you cant handle such money?? Maybe its me, even when I was rich, never did I spend my money on anything I didn't need..Clothes, 3 cars, (ford Explorer for winter, Mustang for fun/hobby, BMW for? just because I always wanted one) furniture, and I bought quite a few things for my kids and even their mother. I surprised them with a 52 inch Hitachi big screen TV, delivered to their door...I was not rich rich, but making 6 figures..The TV was before they came out with these flat screens, still don't like them too much...

But winning money like this? Sure, take care of my family, definitely open a shelter for animals, something I always wanted to do, hit a few charity's and buy a house, maybe 2, would depend where I wanted to retire and bank the rest, live off the interest each Month, then, look into my back surgery, if all good, go back to School to be a Vet, something I always wanted to do...WTH??? just blows the money away..he better keep that job, he will be back there in no time clicking his heals, asking what happen!!/?? Hell, I bet the friends he gave millions to will need to help him..LOL

Someone please explain to me (and everybody else) how sending $57 million dollars to the DR is a good idea.

Is it a tax shelter issue? I could see if the money needed laundering, but it's already been cleaned and pressed by the IRS.

In what bank would that type of money be safe in the DR? How in the world is HE going to be safe in the DR when everyone knows he's got that type of money in a Dominican bank?

So to recap, we have...

$57 million in the DR.

$20 million unaccounted for.

An estranged common-law partner suing him for a percentage of the proceeds and for domestic abuse.

Another court case involving an unpaid contractor.

A construction supervisor named Jesus who managed to have all remodeling work shut down because of lack of permits.

More kids than you can shake a platano at, which means child support payments up the wazoo.

That's how you go from this-
