I hear ya... Been here four months and if I hear ESTA NOCHE one more time, I am going to swim home! There is no avoiding it, it is all the same everywhere and every night. I listen to some Kenny Chesney back at the house to change it up!

I don't know why, but I always think of bachata as the Dominican equivalent of country music.

Think of Anthony Santos as Hank Williams.

That's nothing. When I first got here three years ago, the song of the day way "La Cafetera".

The words went something like this:

Verse 1:
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera

Verse 2:
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera

Verse 3:
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera
la cafetera

The first time I heard it, I thought someone's dvd was stuck.

there was a similar song not too long ago called La Vaca. same thing. the singer just repeated the words over and over.

Ridiculous. It actually became a joke. I would walk around singing ESTA NOCHE, and then my damn caretaker that it was funny so he'd play it, on repeat!

this is my theory:
if you learn to dance bachata, you will start to enjoy it

same goes for the other types of Dominican music

i love salsa so much, i just had to learn to dance to it. the music is just so fearsome, it is hard to stay still . i went to dance school , and paid good money to learn. i also learned the bachata, but that did not help me to like the music.

You're in our country. If you don't like it here, why do you come? We don't need you to change us. Don't you have an Ipod or mp3 player to play whatever you want? Go buy yourself some ear buds and enjoy yourself. Why foreigners think its their job to change us, I will never understand. Incre?ble, de verdad, incre?ble.
I've been here going on my third week. Have been spending my days getting set-up and localized, and my nights out and about the town. I've been all over and have grown a little tired of hearing the same exact songs all day and all night. It's like every Dominican has a playlist of 20-30 songs which gets pumped through everyones speakers.

The only escape I've found is PURE night club in Playa Dorada. But then you have to deal with being treated like an asshole b/c I don't have an all-inclusive bracelet.

I was a DJ in the US and would like to go to a place that mixes it up a bit. Even the karoake here plays the same songs. I've asked a couple of places if I could DJ and they replied that they already had a DJ. I even offered to play. I've DJ-ed in clubs all over the US and Canada and know how to keep the party going.

I've heard plenty of people, mostly gringos, complaining about the same thing. Just wondering if anyone knows of any place in the POP area that plays more that bachata. Don't want to start my own bar just to hear good music while out with my friends.

Any Advice????

why so touchy? never heard of the concept of free speech? nobody is advocating a government ban on bachata...i scarcely remember anyone here trying to change anybody else.

ok, thats my theory gone then :(

Well done on the salsa though…this is my goal for the year; to learn a little salsa. But i get the sense that you really need some instruction for this one? Bachata and Merengue i just kind of picked up

salsa is a pain in the ass to learn. either that, or i have no knack for it. it took me quite a while to get it down to a point that i could get off my chair in the dance clubs. merengue you can learn in two nights.
