Cell Phones that Work Well on Claro

Can anyone suggest a cell phone that works well on the claro system?

I am going with a Blu phone (because they are cheaper than Samsungs, LG's...) but do the Blu phones work well on claro and specifically which Blu Phone?

Any suggestions appreciated...

850-1900MHz only. Dom Rep is on USA GSM frequency.

Or any quad-band GSM phone, supporting both - European and American standards.

A few towers in tourist cities (Bavaro, Sosua - checked) support 900-1800MHz European standards. But the coverages is non-existent in other places.

Just about every GMS phone made has 4 bands of GMS. All will work here.

My wife and I both have International Phones that operate on the GSM system here with Claro. They operate, and that is about all. My wife's Motorola phone is plagued with constant pop-up text messages from Claro offering who-knows-what for 25-50 pesos. Usually pop-up when she trying to take a photo or otherwise use the phone for a phone call. My Samsung S-5 is not as prone to this, but still get occasional advertising messages that usually interrupt at inopportune times. Next season, we're getting Orange.

There is a way to turn those popups off. Try searching for "mi sim" and then turn off "Ideas Claro."
