They were invented around 1900. Almost too simple to patent. The ones without curves are not very cosy; the good ones have a beer cup holder..

Does anyone happen to know where I could get my hands on a few wooden adirondack chairs (preferably on the north coast)? We bought 4 plastic ones about a year ago and use them all the time, but would like to upgrade to proper wooden ones as a little Christmas present to ourselves. We are located in Cabrera but could do anywhere from Puerto Plata to Nagua and would even consider Santiago or Santo Domingo if the price is right and the chairs are what we are looking for. Would love to hear if others have bought any, where they got them, price, and if they can recommend a seller or even a builder. Thanks in advance!

My only request is that you circle back and reveal how this Adirondack journey unfolds. Many on this site are fully invested in your crusade emotionally and are oft times left in timeless suspense.

The beauty of their wide, flat arms is they almost don't even need the beer cup holder. However, I came across a photo of one online with a beer bottle opener tucked under the arm and my husband is now keen on one of those.

But of course! My prediction is the same as WW. Getting them done locally would be very convenient and always nice to give business to a local. Will still let you know how it plays out... and even post a photo (now that I know how)!

WW - No hay luz and the rain has passed. I'm on the look out for your guy! :)

WW - Your guy came by this morning and will bring me a quote this afternoon. Thanks very much for setting that up!! It was actually me he had done work for before on this road but I hadn't realized it. He had fixed up some broken chairs and tables we had when we first moved into this house. Seems like a really nice guy!

... Now hopefully he gives me a nice quote! ;)

Mission accomplished! Thanks again!!

Love the chairs... Very comfy, well made... and only a little late! ;) My girls' especially love their mini versions. He also threw in a table to match for no extra cost, which is lovely as well. Will post a photo of the chairs tomorrow.

Get some of those nail on rubber feet to put on the bottoms of the legs. They'll last a lot longer.

i had to read it four times before i figured out you were talking about the chairs, and not the kid in wellingtons.

These look just like the ones we bought in April - will take photos and post them when we get there in a couple of weeks.

800 pesos each?!?!? That is amazing!!! Our plastic ones cost more than that each. Heck, I'd take a couple of those 1500 pesos lounge chairs at the same time. It would be well worth travelling down there (or sending a truck) for that price!

Let me know if you are still interested in the lounges.
