Help me out JD, what do you think is "Fantasy stuff". You don't believe this project exists?

Yes I believe it exists , the Fantasy part refers to the investors thinking they can make it such a desirable family spot, with shuttle service to the beach.
Plenty of other options ON the Beach, in this Beach Community, and other places, and most of those are never Full.

The only GOOD move I have read lately is the Cruise ship Line buying the RIU in Maimon.. That is an awesome Plan. ( not for the locals and vendors) , but from a business point of view, they cant lose.
It will probably be a 5 star Hotel when they are done with it.

So , what exactly are these investors in Sosua working on ? A Budget Hotel far away from the Beach ?...

oh, I know.. People who are into Fitness and like to WALK, a LOT, on their Vacation.. that should work.

I'm curious. What is the targeted demo for La Esplanade? And what type of business will it be?
(Or is that like Donald Trumps plan to defeat ISIS? - " Secret, but it's going to be fantastic, trust me!")

I'm still interested in who the targeted demographic is?

On the Presidents visit from Sosua News

President Danilo Medina made an unannounced visit to Sos?a
Recently president Danilo Medina made an unannounced visit to the house of mayor Ilana Neumann of Sos?a. The entire council was summoned to rush to attend this meeting. After exchanging pleasantries, the mayor expressed the problems Sos?a struggling is with. First she expressed her concerns about the so often promised public hospital for the community of Sos?a. Now traffic victims have to be brought to a hospital in Puerto Plata with a poor outcome many times. She mentioned the poor water supply and that many streets, especially in the surrounding villages, which still haven’t been paved.

They also discussed the new policy to turn the resort town into a resort for families and retirees.
The President listened attentively and promised to look at these problems seriously.

================================================================
My editorial comment: Do people not yet see how the urban renewal changes in Sosua are coming directly with the consent from the President on down?

On that we are in total agreement. Probably more jobs to be gained than the ones reportedly lost in recent times.

Probably more jobs ALREADY provided, as in NOW, AS WE SPEAK, than the number of jobs ACTUALLY lost due to the operating hours changing for businesses serving alcohol..

See post 1303 regarding the President's visit this week.

The President was in town and met with Illana the mayor of Sosua:

The answer to your question cannot be made more clear than that.

They simply like this location because of the beach.

It seems to me like most of the posters here are condeming the new project to failure because the property is "too far" from the beach. However your are correct, they like the town of Sos?a specifically for its beaches (plural), also Cabarete beach.

Moving all the colorful vendors out to build a few hundred condos will ruin the beach.
Check out all the online photos posted of Sosua - most are of the beach and the beach businesses selling towels, and paintings and libations.

In my opinion it would DEFINITELY ruin the beach, and I believe the opinion of the Esplanada property investors is the same. Their marketing plan is based upon Sos?a beach remaining the same as it is TODAY, or are as close as possible with some small improvements..

Perhaps you are a realtor with an interest to promote the project - but it sure is not going to be the Sosua Beach which we all shared.

I'm not a realtor but I certainly hope this project is successful, I only see it as being an overall benefit for the north coast generally and Sos?a specifically. I don't believe the project will have much impact on Sos?a beach, but whatever impact it has, I believe will be positive.

Exactly.....
Its a Demographic that has not been invented yet...
Out of shape and Elderly Retired Beach Goers, on a budget who want to be far enough away from town so as not to be tempted by Hookers, who are fit enough to walk 15 mins to the beach everyday, and yet have money burning holes in their pockets just in case they see some nice girls while they are with their Families .

I would not condemn the plan to rejuvenate La Esplanada. I just question its long term potential for success. I wish them well.

Windeguy, just curious . Did you take any Advanced Marketing classes ? or do you just blindly Trust Politicians who make lofty Vague promises ?

Who come to discuss such important issues UNANNOUNCED ?.
So u saying this is so covert that he made an unplanned visit and everyone had to RUSH to make the meeting.

wow, thats enough to convince me then,
this must be a Solid Plan for Sosua.

U know what , the more I read, the more I am convinced

THERE IS NO PLAN..

if there was, it would certainly be done more FORMALLY.

Ok, I hear you...and I also read the article in Sosua News. But I interpreted that as a broad statement as to the general plan for the entire area. I was asking specifically about the Esplanade project. I'm still interested in what their targeted demographic and business model is?

I was hoping NY-DR Commuter would address this as he seems to have insider knowledge about this particular project. (Can't help but use another Trump analogy: Maybe it's going to be the "fittest" project in the history of the country?) (;-)

And I rode by there yesterday afternoon. Didn't appear to be any activity (construction or otherwise) going on?? Is there a timeline? I always have friends wanting to visit looking for recommendations.

That could be an “endorsement”
or
It could be a.... “I had to drive all the way up here... now, Get your House in order”.

Then, today NY-DR Commuter says....

I think that the operating hours will eventually go back to the previous times. And I wholeheartedly believe they should.

(That seems out of character for Him)

So, I'm going with.... Get your House in order

How would you propose getting it over with? I'm just curious about what measures people would be comfortable with them taking.

I'm not against the idea. It would not affect my time in Sosua. I've developed a personal elaborate strategy for avoiding prostitutes there. I don't walk through the intersection of PC and Dr. Rosen, and at the beach, I walk on the beach and not up top. Also, when I hear a psst, I just ignore and know that no one is talking to me.

i wonder where did this info come from. all national media wrote about danilo's visit in cabarete and sosua but i did not see the issue of upgrading sosua to a family destination of the list of issues discussed.
water, schools, roads and infrastructure in general? yes. squashing putas? no.

I didn't see it in any local reports either, no idea where Sosua News reporter got it from. Even then you can tell what you like to a president, if he does not acknowledge or comment, what's the point, go in one ear comes out of the other !

This is nothing new, the Mayer and ADSS (and those they control) have pushed for this for ages (6 years and counting), they even have written letters to Danilo directly just recently and every time he comes over, but never heard of him personally mentioning or referring to it in any of his comments or speeches (correct me if I missed it though).

But he repeatedly refers to the schools and hospital for many years now, remember him promising that hospital for his election campaign - for his first term ! Didn't he after election hit the ground with a shovel to start constructions in a grand photo opportunity !?

Perhaps if he starts mentioning he wants to change Sosua for family tourism we will have it at the back of the queue of to-do list, after schools and hospitals etc. (may be uses that as a promise for his next campaign for the 3rd term ! lol)

closing times, windows closed in, street closings, chasing chicas down pc; none of that stops some sexually frustrated guy from getting on a plane in nyc. "The force is strong with that one"

I think that at some point they are going to get frustrated and really start harassing anything that appears to be monger/puta. Stop-n-Frisk, visits to the PD station for chats. Planting drugs or underage then giving the targeted group a tour of the cells and tell them to get outa Dodge. They wouldn't even have to make arrests. The word of that harassment would spread like wildfire and Sosua would dry up quick.
