Put some teflon tape on them mine didn't have or neighbors.. my friend used this in Florida 2 yrs it worked just follow instructions carefully or your changing sand..clogged his.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Marlig-Fix-A...619486?hash=item19df6c9c5e:g:8RIAAOSwGvhT751B
I tried one bottle of this or a similar product. The instructions said two applications may be necessary, so maybe I shoud try another bottle.

I have a sand filter, set the valve on recirculate, opened the main drain and shut off the skimmers after pouring the bottle in the farthest skimmer. After a day I put the filter on filter and opened the skimmers.

The directions can get confusing, and I am not 100% sure I did them properly.

" that by allowing the level to drop to the point there is no further drop in water would tell me where to look".

This is how I found mine... Works like a charm then the fun starts!

As previously mentioned let the water drop to where it stops. I just did this on mine and in one of the skimmers I found one of them had a hair line crack. I used JB marine weld and it worked. I don't know how long it will last but I would look closely at the base of your skimmers for cracks.
We had a pool guy give us a estimate and he was around 3,000 US and he missed the crack. Good luck.

Not to bring you bad luck, but.........

Had a leak some time ago.
Plugged the vacum outlet, permanent style, worked for some months. Then.......
To cut a long story short, broke the stone patio ( like real flat rocks instead of tiles...... that was murder, btw :( ), dug up the top skimmer pipes ( which was where the problem was )...... one of the pipes was cracked..... changed it.
A year later, same problem. Fukc that, not doing all that again. Condemed ( ? ) the 2 top skimmers...... only use the bottom 2 now.
Worked fine for a year..... if u dont mind diving  2.20 m down to plug in the vacum ;)

Now it seems one of the jets is leaking somewhere, a small leak fortunaly..........

Conclusion I am just going to leave the #@$ing pool as it is...... as long as i can clean it and use it.....
After that I am going to fill it with 4 truck-fulls of bloody rock and plant trees in it  :):):)...... and go down to the river more often :) :)

My wife wants a pool. All this has been very helpful for my no way side. Thanks

Haha, we've kicked the idea around too, and I agree. With the beach on our corner, we've repeatedly put it on the back burner, but reading this makes me want to keep it there. :)

A pool is an extravagant luxury that comes with a high cost.  It takes ongoing work and expense to keep the water looking crystal clear so that it shimmers like diamonds in the afternoon sun. When you go away for more than a few days, you need someone to look after your pool just like you do with your pets.

Like other construction and repair projects in this country, the installation of a pool requires constant supervision. Otherwise, you end up with substandard materials, improper installation and or equipment (don't get me started on ripping up concrete to repair defective piping and flexible skimmer lines that have a 310 degree bend as they exit the skimmer and begin their run to the filter).

It is great to be able to take a convenient plunge to cool down and if well maintained, looks great, but can be a significant hazard for children, pets and local wild life (yes I've plucked dead birds outs of the pool). I enjoy my pool, but every morning out I do to clean and maintain it.

Having a pool is Kinda like living on a beach front. You only want it until you have the experience.

I've done both, and never again.

Let it leak until it reaches it's natural level.  Mine eventually went down to the outlet jets.  Found out one of the pipes to one of the jets was cracked.  Some serious excavation was required to get to it.  Another telltale sign was that the grass was greener where the leak was!

My pool emptied all the way to nothing and I had the bottom drains plugged... Impossible to see green grass as the whole backyard is stones...

Any good suggestions???

That is so true. I'm still living the dream 200 ft (60m) from the waters edge. I can truly say the second happiest day of my life was when I moved into my beach front home. I can also forecast the happiest day of my life will be when I sell my beach front home.

Look for a hairline crack at the lowest part of the pool floor. Pay special attention around the edge of the drain.

Anyone here have years of inexpensive trouble free enjoyment from their pools. Just wondering.

Going on 5 years, same water  (well almost, had to top up in drought time).  Salt chlorine pool,- if you lose water you lose salt!
