I've never seen that before, Kathy, thanks!

Of course, there was no internet when i was working on ships back in the 80's & 90's, so all i could do was check phone books in different European countries whenever we docked. I never found the name Genao in Spain or Portugal back then. Now, there are a few in Spain, but that's from Dominicans immigrating to Spain in the last 25yrs.

My last name is Smegma, can anyone guess where that comes from?

Ron Woods & Jarabacoa

I'm currently writing a book about my infamous brother, Papin. He was raised in Bonao, but currently lives in Dayton, Ohio.

I was talking to a well-known guy here in Dayton, Frank Reeves; he was best friends with another man from Dayton named Ron Woods. Ron Woods started Milano's pizza here in Dayton back in 1968. Ron moved to the DR around 2001. First he lived in Las Terrenas, where he was good friends with another guy from Dayton, Todd Schlosser.

Anyway, both Ron Woods and Frank Reeves knew of my infamous brother, Papin, before they ever met him in person. Papin was a well-known football and boxer here in Dayton. But what i'm looking for is any details regarding Ron Woods and some of the characters that you will see in the chapter that I'm writing right now. Frank Reeves provided most of the details, but it was so many years ago--and Frank is now 82yrs now--that it would help if anyone could fill in some of the details.

Below is the chapter i'm working on right now.

Chapter 17 (Dominican Republic)

Ron Woods was a pilot. He owned a Cessna plane which he routinely flew to the Dominican Republic. Leaving the US from South Florida, Ron always stopped to refuel in the Turks & Caicos before continuing to Santo Domingo.

One day, Ron invites Frank Reeves down to the Dominican Republic. They fly from south Florida to Turks & Caicos, then to Santo Domingo. From Santo Domingo, Ron takes Frank Reeves to Puerto Plata. Again, this is early 1980’s and Puerto Plata is so quiet that Frank and Ron find goats sleeping in the middle of the streets. Back in the 70’s & 80's the north coast was a sleepy little place without much traffic.

Sometime around 2001, Ron Woods moves to the Dominican Republic permanently. Ron ends up buying a house in Las Terrenas, on the beach, El Putillo, but eventually gets tired of the heat and moves up into the mountains of Jarabacoa, a town where the temperatures are much cooler.

Both Ron Woods & Frank Reeves start frequenting the north coast, where, they came through the doors of Jose O’Shay’s Irish pub on Cabarete beach—a restaurant I was worked at from 2007 to 2018. O'Shay's was one of the few places on the north coast where you could watch NFL football games. Our paths most likely crossed at some point on the north coast without even realizing that all of us came from the same small town of Dayton, Ohio.

In the DR (Dominican Republic), Ron Woods ends up introducing Frank Reeves to several people. Frank becomes friends with a guy named “Solar John” from Canada. John had a Solar Panel business on the north coast and installed solar panels in many hotels along the north coast.

Ron also introduced Frank Reeves to an American real-estate mogul named Bill Kirkman; Bill owned Sea Horse Ranch and was just starting to develop it. This was around 1990. Bill was offering lots inside Sea Horse Ranch for sale for $50,000.

Another guy Ron Woods introduces Frank to is a guy named, Canadian Tony; Tony lived in Canada, but was originally from Czechoslovakia. Tony lived in Jarabacoa at the time but ended up purchasing a large farm that he lost because there was trouble with the Deslinda/title…it was forged—which was a common thing back then.

Today, Frank Reeves is married to a beautiful Dominican lady and lives in Dayton, Ohio. Sadly, Ron Woods has gone off to greener pastures after passing away on January 31, 2019; he was 81yrs old.
