That cant be real??
I was resident in another country before, its 180 days within 365 in about any other country. The word resident indicates its not someone staying 2 days a year....isnt it...
But then again its DR so I believe you, just another one of the incomprensible rules of DR...I would not in my wildest dreams read 6 month absence as per stay but of course as per year....and I did have the residency solicitud papers in my hand before including explanations- obviously did not understand the way DR interprets them...
I think there are no flights to DR from UK till November- It does seem confusing what will be needed to get into DR first they were saying you need an affidavit of good health in order to enter a resort now it seems its an app or possibly both they really need to get there act together because people are not gonna book if it is unclear what you need to enter a resort. The hotels association say we will need to wear masks in the lobby, restaurants and public spaces in the resorts. Dominican Republic have been very unclear on the reopening strategy and you also keep extending the state of emergency that does't give the tourist confidence to book.
Denmark recommends no travel until September except for a few neighboring countries. Maybe Germany has the same warning. Could be its hard to sell charter flights to Punta Cana with a travel warning.BTW Condor is also not flying to Cancun or Havana before September... So it looks like it has nothing to do with "they gave up on DR"...
Cuba is opening its airports not before August 1, maybe later.BTW Condor is also not flying to Cancun or Havana before September... So it looks like it has nothing to do with "they gave up on DR"...

Tell me again what does Cuba - where it is forbidden to fly till at least August - have to do with Condors decision not to fly to RD opening july 1?
I don't know about Mexico but seems has many more cases then DR.
at least the European tourists are not going to Cuba instead, but that was known before as Cuba is closed this summer.
What does it cost and what does an airline need to do to maintain a slot (or whatever its called) in order to use an airport in the DR? There must be a minimum $$$ requirement for a airline to maintain a relationship with the DR airport authorities. Perhaps this is the problem for certain airline "that are giving up on the DR". I'm sure you just can't go and come at will without meeting those requirements. No free lunches.
I have changed my view of it since a few weeks ago where I thought they would try and control it and just have the resort tourism and legal residents. The DR has no tradition of that. Look at the overstaying. Its not a big problem. Cuba could do something like that as they already do to some extent. The smaller islands can do it and someone posted about Jamaica with a corridor to control tourists and they may want to do it anyway because of the high crime against foreigners there. I think they already did with their Montego Bay. Maybe DR becomes the place known for not trying to control the tourists and that becomes the attraction like it always was.
True but you can’t overstay. Thats a big problem there when you leave the country or if they find out. They know where the tourists are. They register you at the hotel or the casa you rent. They would be capable of tracing just with old tech methods. I think they will have the upper hand in this with European and Canadian tourism.I was two times in Cuba roaming arround free. No restrictions. Except Cuba beeing Cuba meaning very limited products in supermarkets and No rental car to be found last minute. But that was no planed restrictions. Quite a lot tourists are exploring Cuba on their own outside of resorts. Its in direct competition with RD
Highest per head or highest because its the second largest country? Only the per head count should be considered. The DR also has the highest infection rates in the Carribean, that may be playing a part.
More silliness on infection rates. What other Caribbean countries? Ones that fake the numbers by controlling the testing more so than DR? Give me a breakHighest per head or highest because its the second largest country? Only the per head count should be considered.

JamaicaR1There isn't a high crime against foreigner in Jamaica, simply not true. Crime is definitely an issue in some areas of Jamaica but thats among Jamaican (drug trade). Actually, my least fond places are cities among that corridor (except Port Antonio which I love).
