Apparently, the crew filming the movie "Geechee" is mostly back in the USA after one of them was injured by bullets from the DNCD.

Its still murky what exactly were they doing at 11pm at night basically in the middle of nowhere. They claim they were looking for places to film certain scenes in the vicinity of Pinewood Studios in Juan Dolio. Dominican movie producers claim that no one searches for a place to film at 11pm. The group was 'discovered' in their rental vehicle by the DNCD agents. Rather then letting the guys approach their vehicle and proceed with the usual identification, they decided to speed away. The DNCD followed them and when it was clear they were not stopping, some gunshots from the DNCD targetted their runaway vehicle and in the process several of the bullets struck one guy on his back. Needless to say, the crew was shaken up, the wounded victim was taken to a hospital in Santo Domingo and quickly discharged since his injuries were not life threatening. As has already been said, the movie filming has been halted and most of the crew is now back in the USA. Supposedly an investigation is taking place by the authorities. The crew apparently had the permits to be roaming the streets at a time when the country is in a curfew due to the Covid situation.

Alfonso Rodríguez, who is one of the better known Dominican movie producers, claims that the only reasons for being in the streets at that time is to buy drugs or find prostitutes, that he doesn't believe the excuse of searching for places to shoot part of the film. This is a major issue because he thinks now this crew is going to spread in Hollywood that filming im the DR is not safe and is best avoided, putting a serious strain in the nascent Dominican film industry. He was also designated by Luis Abinader as the Dominican consul in California y pledges that his goal is to increase Hollywood filming in the Dominican Republic.

Alfonso Rodríguez makes the declaration at the beginning of this video (he's the one on the left in the video photo) in a declaration he made to a Santo Domingo based radio station.

According to Wikipedia, Jamie Foxx and Stuart Ford are the producers of "Geechee".

Jamie Foxx is a well known American TV and movie actor and movie producer. He's on the left on the following video (unrelated topic).

I agree with Alfonso Rodríguez.
I also think the DNCD took appropriate action.
So, let me get this straight. You're out
driving a round in the Dominican Republic
at 11:00pm at night while there is a nationwide
lock down in place looking for a place to shoot?
More like looking for a place to get shot.
Yall ever heard the old adage "nothing good
ever happens in the street after midnight"?
Appropriate.

Could it be that Americans assume that laws don’t count for them in other countries?
I was suggesting that you can break curfew nightly in the US without any problem, but that doesn't appear to be the case in the DR or most anywhere else in the world.

more bad news for the tourist Industry......when this type of news hits the homeland it's just bad

More bad news for the tourist industry when the reality of the situation is twisted and turned to create a false narrative.
Aka.....fake news.
What is fake is not the incident at hand, but what were indeed the actual factoids regarding the incident.

So typical of today's idiots. Go out, break the law (in a foreign country), refuse the orders from the police (while you are breaking the law), start a police pursuit, get shot at and then accept no responsibility and blame everyone else involved.
It makes me wonder what kind of trophy these half tards expect for this.

I swear the world has gone upside down or we all live in a cartoon.

Once you start a persuit with the police or any other authority figure, you are done!

Do you really think you are going to get away? You do that and they will hunt you like there is no tomorrow. Now it has become more than an authority doing his job since the ego mixes in the equation. They will find you and beat you at your own game.

that's why it's easier to just pay them and be on your way with a police escort..

I've worked on production. Just because they were out at 11:00 pm scouting locations doesn't mean they were looking for prostitutes and drugs. It is definitely possible, but usually crew are working hard 24/7 to get a film finished in 24-30 days because they don't have an unlimited budget, and they are not running around doing drugs and partying. If they were going to shoot a night scene they would be scouting at night because it would not look the same during the day.

But, the bottom line is they ran from the police. This is the bad idea. It's not clear why they ran. If they are typical US citizens they didn't speak Spanish they might have just been terrified by guys coming at them with guns.

SO, it's definitely possible they were out looking for drugs and hookers and fleeing the police but there's also another story that could be true. :)

FWIW, you're the first one to mention prostitutes and drugs in this thread.

I can understand why they ran since it was undercover policemen. I think shooting at them was excessive use of force.

From the first post in the thread and presumably the news story..... "Alfonso Rodríguez, who is one of the better known Dominican movie producers, claims that the only reasons for being in the streets at that time is to buy drugs or find prostitutes, that he doesn't believe the excuse of searching for places to shoot part of the film. Ha. Got me. I sure missed that one! I stand corrected.
