Would you be willing to give us a few names
so we can compare them to Haiti?

Personally I think the world should start looking
for a new island and move them there. Short of
that, I would agree with what windeguy said...

Hhmm. I admit it to be challenging. The ones I can think of found oil. I just think. Never say never. But maybe it is as you are implying going too of topic.
Actually if I was to mention a good example of a country that in a fairly short time has developed quite a lot it could be the DR. And not because of oil and yes oil seems to in some cases to corrupt and make things worse. The DR despite continued corruption has managed to make a lot of progress. So I even kept it DR related.
Move them folks to another island and

Yeah, but said countries have only remained dysfunctional for a decade or two. Haiti, unfortunately and depending on the metric, has between thirty years to half a century being so, and remains irritatingly unable to get its sh*t together at the political level.
And let me add to this that the list of societal things that demand their having some sort of political/economic stability only grows more urgent by the day, such as the demographical situation, as in, the inevitable spreading out of the demographic excess of the Haitian nation, which is starting to be felt even on far off places in this continent, like the US/Mexican border or Chile.
That's true, but the DR was never the total disaster that Haiti is.
OTOH: Could Haiti be an opportunity for some outside country? My contrainian view point against most of the member's opinion is similar to taking a run down, beat up piece of real estate and turning it into a gem of a property. How can one take an entire country and say "this is a worthless piece of trash that has no value? " Like ugly women, crap houses, junk heaps of cars, . . . EVERYTHING has a value. So what is the value of Haiti? Do I hear a bid?? I don't know the answer but I would bet there are solutions to the "Haiti problem".
I still like the idea of Haiti becoming a US or French Protectorate. It would be difficult to convince the Americans and French to take that on.
