United bets Americans will choose to vacation in the Caribbean this winter

United Airlines announces the start of a new Washington D.C. to Santo Domingo flight starting 17 December 2020. The airline now flies to 10 destinations in the Caribbean from the US capital.



The new Santo Domingo flight will be daily to offer year-round service between Washington-Dulles and Las Americas International in Santo Domingo.



From Washington, United offers nonstop service to 10 Caribbean destinations for the winter season including daily service to Punta Cana, Grand Cayman, Nassau, Montego Bay, Aruba, Turks and Caicos and San Juan, as well as weekend service to St. Thomas and St. Maarten.



The new flight to Santo Domingo is part of an overall significant expansion of its winter international schedule announced by the airline. Eight new routes and flights to 19 destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America are added.

Southwest DC to Dulles is a 20 minute ride, off rush hour. The fact that this will be the only direct flight from the DMV to the D.R. will make it an extremely popular route. When the Silver line on DC Metro is completed to Dulles, United will add flights along this route. It's a good bet.

Wrong !! very wrong. No one is getting to Dulles in 20 minutes from downtown D.C, ever. The small Dominican population in the entire D.C metro area wont be able to prop up that route. Few people travel to the capital city from the D.C area anyway, they go to the beach towns.

In the meantime, Air Transat announced a layoff of over half their flight attendants and Air Canada announced further flight cutbacks to small regional airports within Canada. Air Transat is a major airline for Canadians flying to the DR. Air Transat Vacations has links to resorts in Punta Cana, Samana, and Playa Dorada. Canadian tourists using small regional airports need connectors to major airports to get down to the DR. Air Canada cuts make it much more difficult and a lot more expensive. You get a better rate if you book a complete vacation package through Air Canada Vacations.

We are from PA and D.C. airports are the closest with reasonable flights to SDQ- I've been waiting for a nonstop for 15 years! Too bad already bought tickets for this winters trips, but will try it in the future.

those people have been using Reagan and BWI. BWI is almost the same distance to DC as Dulles but easier to get into the city, less traffic. BWI is also the busiest. Dulles International caters to Africa and Asia. I have used the airport no less than 50 times. Northern Virginia travelers ( including Loudoun county and Montgomery co in Maryland are some of the highest earning zip codes in the country. They are interested more in the Caymans, Saint Lucia and Bermuda.

non stop service is all relative now during this covid thing. The last 2 or 3 flights I have taken were booked as non-stop, but they ended up being one stop in god forsaken airports like Charlotte or Atlanta.

Its seasonal flight, that will end in march 2021, IAD flight also will have conections to SDQ, remember that the airline not only thinking in Washington market.
