Ive always noticed basic hygiene to be a problem in the DR. Hand washing and proper facilities seem to be lacking which compounds the problem

Hey in the land of no toilet seats, soap and hot water are luxury items
in case we missed it:
SOE been extended by an other 45 days
Curfew been extended for an other 25 days.
IMHO we will celebrate Christams and New Years under SOE and under Curfew.
while w eIslanders are not very good in following simple rules, just look on the clandestine after curfew parties with known rtists playing theirmusic there etc, LOL,
the way the DR is running the restrictions is for US working not that bad.
I feared on a earlier stage of the thing that we would completely mess it up and get our hospitals over run/collapsing our medical/emergency system,
but to my surprise we managed so far to ride the covid wave without that.
looking on our 1st world big brothers, with the US running as awaited everything tailored just solely for elections purposes and the EU running panic havock shutting down everything for a month now,
I would say we Bana Republicer do quiet fine on the edge of a world economy collapse.
I am out to do my job (the lil piece left of it) on daily bases, a 9PM curfew does not influence my personal customs in any ways as i am by that time without covid anyways back home to work from the computer, so i am a happy camper due the way it is run here in DR.
if there just would be a cceptable solution to our educational system now,
as on that part i fear a full failure shi.tshow startig this coming monday.

who live around your section of town if they are "happy campers" too?

I agree with you 100% about this coming Monday... a real sh*tshow indeed. What they are doing to these children's future(s) is nothing short of criminal in my opinion and should be treated as such.
there is no curfew on any of the private resort grounds, like casa de Campo, Cap Cana or any of the AI Resort grounds.
Curfew is outside for public roads/places.

honestly, I don't know if Casinos did already reopen again.
when the resorts opened the casinos had to stay closed, but i don't know if they may have reopened now, too.
as far as a curfew goes, if such Casino is on the Resort property, it may be allowed to stay open in the evenings.
for casinos off resort it would not make sense to be open, as nobody would be allowed to drive there after curfew hours.
somebody else may know and add here if Casinos are already open now.
Selective enforcement is and always will be the way rules and laws are applied in this country. Recently in Rio San Juan the police did a massive round up of people who were not wearing mask. Perp walked a few and El Comadante got his 5 minutes of fame on thier local news cast.
However ya take a look at Sosua 45 minutes up the road and the only people who are wearing mask are the people who are selling them. This curfew is pointless. Its being kept in place to lower the embarrassing crime rate this country is known for and anyone who's still stuck on the idea the curfew is about saving lives while not over loading the hospitals is wrong.... Its about control.

be testing the arriving passengers like they are NOT (STI on Sept 17th)

Not sure about the rest of the country but the casinos
have reopened here in Santiago.
I'm fairly certain that the Hard Rock casino was not open when we went in July. I don't gamble so the first time we went it was just to see what it looked like. But I'm pretty certain it was dark all the time we were there in July.
They do test randomly. I was tested when I returned to POP two weeks ago. So was another passenger while I was in the test room. A friend that just came down got the temp check.
here in PC everybody is passing automatically below the temp scanners.
many guests do not even realize that they are mounted there.
as it is announced that cruiseships will be wecomed under the given strict protocols, temp checks foreverybody would be a nimimum of a check to do.
and there is not much more that could be done, the same as at the airports, other than looking out for travelers with syptoms,
which for sure will all the time already be done on board of a cruise ship, as a spread on a cruise ship, as we saw at the beginning of the pandemic, would be a very obvious and impossible to stop thing.

I am pretty sure the Jaragua is the same, but the smaller ones I cannot say. Generally if a hotel in SD has a casino there is no curfew.
Temperature checks are a joke.
They administer them at several supermarkets and pharmacies prior to entry as well.
I've yet to see them turn anybody away.
Does the testing device even have batteries?
You have a better chance of being stopped and deported for overstaying a 30 day tourist card, than you do for not gaining admittance into country for a failed temperature check.
