After the Vice president comments it is looking more and more likely that residents will not be included in the vaccination program in this country. The VP said the roll out should start next week and will be based on the electoral roll, which does not contain the names on legal resients with a no vota Cedula.

We may have to purchase our vaccine and that will probably not be an option until much later in the process. So unfair and short sighted in my opinion - but no one asked me. I wish there was a way to point out to the Govt that they are making a mistake adopting this limited plan. While not a major portion of the population residents interact with society every day and they can and do get sick and spread it around.

Mr AE agrees with you and just went on a rant. Most legal residents can afford to buy the vaccine (assuming that’s even a possibility), but what about the millions of poor Haitians and Venezuelans? They’ll never contain the virus this way. Is the thought to protect citizens first, and the others later? 🤦‍♀️

Also I would suspect that a large number of residents also fall into the older age bracket which is more susceptible to complications and lots of these older retired folks will have underlying health issues that make them even more vulnerable to Covid. I am very disappointed in the DR. Govt. I had such high hopes that they would care about everyone living in the country and as we struggle through this pandemic together.

Everything I am seeing does confirm that vaccinations are to be for citizens with cedulas. Articles are appearing about citizens being confused as
to which voting location they have to go to for the vaccinations.

Others can perhaps eventually purchase them. For those who cannot afford that, it has been mentioned in the news that the WHO should be responsible.

I very much doubt the DR government will vaccinate illegals if they don't vaccinate even legal residents.

Nobody knows how long the various vaccines protect for. So if it takes until the end of 2021 to vaccinate everyone and the vaccine has already worn off for the first group that were vaccinated, it becomes a continuous cycle even if "everyone" were vaccinated.

There are no vaccines made in RD.
As a consequence we are in the 100% of being a receiver consumer; and we are consumers regardless of the product.
It is only my opinion, but before buying a consumer product we usually buy based upon knowledge of product, history of product and impact the product will have upon our lives and lifestyle, depending upon product.
bear with me please!
If I was to buy a new car in the RD I would be asking about if the Warranty was good, service was available and the historical facts about that particular car.

This is a health product with no actual history, without full trials and scientific conclusions.
SO, it is quite normal to go on line and assess the results of ''vaccines'' already in the operational applications.
I personally think this outside RD assessment is important to discuss whether or not to accept the vaccine here in RD ; however it is just that ''subjective information at best''.
Sure maybe people have died and have had adverse effects from the CV19 Vaccine worldwide; the same happens every year when people get the Flu Vaccine.
That is the risk we take.... but we do have a choice and that is the genius of the whole thing, isn't it?

Good debate about an ''unknown'' is just that ;Good Debate!.
In this case there is no right or wrong, simply suppositions based upon subjective information ...objectivity can only enter into the equation once scientific /medical information is available from the most reliable sources.
So being the human being that I am , I am influenced by what I hear, see and touch....
The Jury is still out on this matter, we should assess what we can garner and make initial opinions that can be turned over by the next information presented. Let us be flexible, understanding, and willing to compromise.
All your opinions are important to me; as are the opinions of others in the Global Community.

In the end , it is my choice of what I do ''Will I take the COVID 19 Vaccine in the RD?"
It has nothing to do with the government but everything to do with my personal opinion and ultimate decision ''To do, or Not to do".

OK you all have a good debate, Blessings.

Some men will swallow the little blue pill produced by Pfizer without question, and they won’t get the Pfizer Covid vaccine because they fear side effects. The battle of the two heads, I guess.
Correct and should understand that the ''little blue pill'' was developed to treat cardiovascular disease ( sildenafil) ... .
Cialis one (Tadalafil ) invented to treat BHP a known Prostatic Hyperplasia medical condition. Both have been tested and approved for the designated conditions. The side effects seem to help ED as well... so be it. Although never initially intended.
So I return to Ivermectin, like Viagra worked well on Animals; works well on humans as well.
The Vaccine is an unknown, no proof as being a long term solution ...simply because there is no historical long term data , so far only effective for 3-4 months. Side effects are important , and need to be assessed both by Medical Profession and you personally.
An intelligent individual will make full assessments before accepting any vaccine. I have taken many vaccines over the past 77 years, all were proven and we know the side effects, risks and mortality rate of those who had adverse side effects.
It will be a matter of history , objective data and real measurable criteria that will determine the effectiveness of the Vaccines.
Yes it is a crap shoot...then again what isn't?
But I will say that my BHP is under control... great side effects. LOL

I think a more sensible and helpful tread would be from posters that have met face to face with their doctor or a doctor and asks" Doc, which vaccine would you take and why?". Report here honestly with quality opinions and advise. There is at least an organiztion and some control over the information.
I asked and both times the reply was, "the first vaccine I could get".
Expert medical opinion is there is no significant difference between Pfizer and Moderna in terms of efficacy.

I missed who said it (and can't find it now) but I just got a popup on my screen that the vaccine will be available here before the end of January.
Take that with a grain of salt. It was a ListinDiario popup but I can't find it on their homepage.
This is the end of Jan.
You know anyone vaccinated in the DR, with anything?

While most people probably will not be able to choose which vaccine they receive
will take advantage of the offering. Supposed to start in a few weeks.

While not the panacea we all hoped for months ago, it has to be better than nothing for the majority who are not likely to have an adverse reaction.
here, I am encouraged that the President has apparently announced that the vaccination will be free or charge. I can only hope that they make it very easy to get in the hopes that most of the population

They are politicians not doctors and likely making a political decision to avoid an outpouring of complaints from the "real Dominicans" over handing out free shots to folks who are only residents.
Agree it is a bad idea if the goal is to stop the spread of the disease.
I am certain the politicos have heard the same from the doctors who are providing advice.

Me neither but we do hear about how the schools will be used and other details but no shots.
With this virus every day is more lives lost.
Seems like months ago we were assured the down pay was made and AZ version was on its way.
Now, who knows.

Today's DR news has the government signing a contract for a vaccine to be delivered in the first quarter, but the DR cannot cancel the contract if the developer is not on time.
Soooooooooo, it appears that there may or may not be vaccine supplies sometime or not in the next two months!!!!
Am I reading this correctly?
Shocking that something so important is handled so casually.
I would think that dealing with this CV outbreak would be considered vitally important; I guess not.
At least two more months of sickness, deaths, and person to person contact rules before seeing the effects of vaccinations.

At the risk of being off-topic and sent on vacation again.

Had my second Pfizer vaccination three days ago.
The injection was routine, and the only effect I noticed was slight fatigue for two days and minor discomfort in the injected arm.
I would not have noticed the tiredness if I did not know what side effects to expect.
Immunity is reported seven days following the second injection.
There is disagreement about how much of the 95% people will get and how long the development of immunity will take.

Comforting to have this disease concern in my rearview mirror.

Very happy for you, and BEST OF HEALTH ...
I also have 6 people now in my direct family who have had the Vaccine, with NO side effects whatsoever ...
So I can relate to that feeling of RELIEF ,especially for both my aging parents .

So just to be clear I was not bashing it before ... I am just extremely cautiously optimistic ..
and I feel that Healthy , young people should be allowed to make their own decision and never be forced to be vaccinated.

My question though, and purpose also of my post
WHAT do you plan on doing now to protect OTHERS around you... people who are still vulnerable .

( I assume you DO know you can still catch the Virus and TRANSMIT it , just as easily as anyone else ... that documented Fact is not even open to debate) ..

Maybe this is a topic for another thread .. I dont know ...but Since you are in this Exact position now, and you FEEL SAFE..
and can breathe Easy ...

What do you do for the REST of the Vulnerable Population ?

One of the main vaccine choices of vaccines for the DR, the Asta Zeneca Oxford vaccine is being rejected in Germany and other countries.
They did not do enough trials in people over 65 (and of course they had that half-does/full-dose error and tried to combine test results).

AstraZeneca jab should not be used on over-65's, says Germany

German authorities have blocked the use of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on people aged over 65, the Financial Times has reported.
A statement by the Standing Vaccine Commission at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), Germany’s main public health agency, said in a draft recommendation there were “insufficient data currently available to ascertain how effective the vaccination is above 65 years”.
Thus, it was recommended only that it be used for people aged between 18 and 64. It comes after the European Medicines Agency said on Tuesday that the vaccine may be authorised only for younger people in Europe, due to the insufficient data. It is expected to make a decision tomorrow.

Good for you, but and this is a big but,

How long does that immunity last, exactly?
I am sticking with this until proven wrong: CV19 is here, there and everywhere to stay.

Don't be surprised at needing repeated vaccine injections in the future.
