The Ministry of Labor says the department has not ruled on whether businesses can obligate its staff to be vaccinated or if staff can be suspended for not getting the vaccine. The Ministry recently issued a resolution asking companies to give their staff time off to get vaccinated.
As in the rest of the world, in the Dominican Republic legal and academic experts are participating in the debate on whether vaccinating can be made obligatory here. While the Dominican government has secured sufficient vaccines and has in place the logistics to vaccinate upwards of 100,000 a day, hundreds of thousands of locals are reticent to getting the vaccine. The country is vaccinating those who can show a Dominican ID or at least a legal passport.
