People sell everything they have to finance a migration trip if they think chances are low they will be caught. Sell the house, the donkey, whatever. Put the money in your pocket and start the journey. It's a gamble with everything that you have.Likely because they don't have a valid visa and cannot even board a flight without one.
But certainly someone/somehow has/is funding the estimated 12,000 at the border.

For many illegals, sent back to square one can be traumatic in a way, because now they don't have the proceeds from selling the things. They don't have a house and other stuff either.
At least the Haitian government will give them a warm welcome back to Haiti. Yeah, that will undo selling the house that you inherited from your parents and they from your grandparents, etc.
It's safe to say that the plan of any illegal migration is to not go back to square one until you have more money, even if its only a little more then when you started. What is not in the plans is being deported with nothing to your name left in the place, plus penniless.
Other borrow money in addition to selling everything they have. Those are the worst if deported, because not only are you penniless, but you owe a lot of money on top of that.
