Of the major US cellphone companies (at&t, verizon, tmobile, etc), what unlocked phone will work with Claro?

Since the phone's for a senior , the easier it is to configure the better. Also, she reloads with paqueticos, so It's prepaid. I just want to move the sim to the new phone without much hassle.

Thanks.

All will work after you install the DR SIM card..... remove the US one
Not true. In the US, Verizon, US Cellular, and the old Sprint network (now owned by T-Mobile) use CDMA. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. Most of the rest of the world uses GSM.

I know Claro only uses GSM, and maybe others here also. You do not want a CDMA.

I found this on Claro. As of 2014, the former Verizon CDMA network has been shut down with Claro now using GSM, UMTS, and LTE exclusively.

Both my Apple phones formerly from Verizon work on Claro.

Good Luck.

And if you cannot unlock an iPhone here for whatever reason, there is a thin chip you can slip on top of the SIM card that unlocks it.

It is not so much the carrier that you want to pay attention to but the phone. You want a GSM phone, not CDMA. Many Apple phones are both. So, if someone bought one of those to use with Verizon, it works with Verizon and it will also work with Claro.

Again, you want a GSM phone, not one that only works only with CDMA (which is what Verizon uses.) One way to do it is find the phone you want and look up the specs for the phone. They will tell you if the phone is GSM and/or CDMA.

Lots of places to read about the difference. For example:

Bottom line as I indicated earlier is that a CDMA phone will NOT work in the DR. So getting a GSM phone is the way to go..........................

CDMA Network was turn off years ago, now all the 3 Cellphone companies use GSM network. Most of the unclocked phone will work good here but you must make sure what bands use the company here you select.

CLARO 3G - 850/1900 bands
CLARO LTE -1700/2100 bands
ALTICE 3G - 1900 Band
ALTICE LTE - 1900 Band
VIVA 3G - 1900 band
VIVA LTE - 1700/2100 bands

A friend told me that Altice may be using also for LTE - 1700/2100.
