The only reason China is the way they are, is because we allowed it...we empower them every day in many aspects of our daily lives.
I believe dishonesty is in their DNA. It is the years of evolution that have let this country China to be exactly how they are.
The are abusers of everything from the environment to people they employ or the others with whom they make business deals.
Look at the crap being sold here. Do you think they want it to serve its intended purpose and make your life easier or just make them a quick profit. (then break and you buy another)
To China the whole world is disposable.

You completely missed my point. The fact is, for a wide variety of things, "we" don't have any choice but to buy Chinese.
There is always a choice. Let's do our best to un-choose China.

Does it really matter where this virus came from?
What matters at this point is the direction governments and Big Pharma are taking in response to this virus.
This reminds me of a famous quote that did not serve the speaker well. Remember this :
"At this point what difference does it make?"

Yeah darn right it matters.
If you don't step off the tracks the train eventually runs you over.

There is always a choice. Let's do our best to un-choose China.
Australia started the political initiative to de-China their consumers last year. The are acutely aware of China’s ability to overwhelm them economically. They‘re close neighbours. The links between China, the US, and Canada are very strong and one sided. China imports much more into the US and Canada than vice versa. I can’t see North Americans weening themselves off cheap Chinese goods. We are addicted and our lack of local manufacturing to compete with China’s retail goods manufacturing industry makes us beholding to China. Our own fault really, because our politicians told us of the political and economic benefits of becoming part of the global village and we blindly bought into it.

You only have to drive in the DR to see first hand, the poor quality of Chinese goods, trucks, motorcycle, etc. Cheaply made and crap within one or two years. The Chinese recently shipped necklaces to Canada that were radioactive. Other personal products contained very high levels of nerve damaging metals like Cadmium. You hear about this all the time and Chinese goods just keep on coming and we keep on buying.

Tariffs don’t work. The previous US administration tried that and China simply devalued their Yuan to level the field and stopped buying soybeans and other US and Canadian agricultural products. The US had to increase their national debt and borrow $14 Billion to subsidize the farmers. Let’s not forget the money owed to China by the US and the massive Chinese investment in North American industries such as oil exploration and development in the Alberta tar sands. All strings that are not easily cut.

China, to put it bluntly, does not play fair because they don’t have to play fair. Their hegemony cultural and political philosophy is similar to the Borg on Startrek. Resistance is futile.

When you cry wolf to much nobody believes you..
I will call a spade a spade. If you want to call it a pitch for, that is your problem.

Anyone who thinks CV19 coincidentally sprouted up naturally while there is a coronvirus lab in the same time is simply one thing:

Still having enemies, weakening virus and power hungry politicians and all in hysteria?
World order you say?
You have a lot going on.

China with a new virus. Even worse than being blamed without evidence of the first virus spread.
last one to talk world order was Hitler.
Who's world order did you have in mind?
Yours?

There is no evidence the cv that struck us was ever inside the lab in Wuhan.
It has to be inside the lab in order to escape.
Level 4 biohazard labs are some of the most secure and most highly monitored labs in the world.
Things do not escape.
I think you are wrong. Dead wrong, as wrong as can be wrong. This is China we are talking about and a virus that appeared close to the lab where it leaked from.

And remember China food products killed thousands of pets, sickened many in New Zealand and they even sold radioactive drywall. The FDA once upon a time banned all Chinese toothpaste for containing glycol, yet I see they sell Chinese toothpaste in stores in DR.

I love ginger with sushi, but you need to be aware if it comes from China it will have aldicarb sulfoxide which can cause "flu-like symptoms," including nausea, headache, and blurred vision, while higher levels can cause, among other things, excessive sweating, salivation, and twitching. Heck I get enough of those symptoms from Viagra

A bit off topic but hopefully the moderator will forgive me. A friend of mine had recent surgery for prostate cancer. He lost his ability to raise his flag, so to speak. His Dr. told him to take a daily Viagra tab to restore his system and over a month or two his flag is flying again. Amazing stuff! 😂

There is always room for a little good news. A little "levity" in a manner of speaking.

Now back to the consequences of the lab leak from WIV,,,

For anyone to say they think China will be a Democracy in the near future shows how little they know about the Chinese way of life and Chinese politics. You have better odds of seeing the DR and Haiti becoming one country first.
Ignorance truely is bliss for some people.

Heard an evangelist say there is a passage in the bible that says the Yellow race will eventually rule the world. Didn’t check the reference but If it is in the bible then it must be true. 😂 I suspect it was his loose interpretation to raise money for his cause.

I’m guessing changed climate and the Covid pandemic will do more to diminish China’s political and economic power over the long term than any other political initiatives.

Credit where credit is due. They are stoic. Our railway in the West was built with Chinese labour and countless numbers of them died building it. Despite the loses and being treated as second class citizens, they stayed and migrated across our country. What’s ironic now is they are an economic powerhouse in Western and Central Canada. Their recent migration from Hong Kong caused house prices to soar in Vancouver and Toronto, beyond the reach of most citizens.

I can see this happening in the DR as well. A check of real estate sites like Juan Perdomo show a big increase in house sales since last Spring. Very little left for sale on their sites. Russian real estate developers have had their kick at the real estate can in the DR. If the Chinese see an investment opportunity in DR real estate, they will follow.

Grandpa has been compromised by the CCP. I've been to China and I love the Chinese.
It's their communist CCP government I have a problem with.

There's nothing communist about the Chinese regime, and it's been that way for quite a while by now. where you been?
it's a mix of capitalism, fascism & authoritarianism.

We should come up with a suitable name for it one day. escaped-Covidism?

I wonder if any of the Chinese haters on this thread have actually ever been to China? It seems to be a very American trend these days, many Americans hate the Chinese based on what they read or hear in the media. It certainly didn't help having a world class xenophobe in the Whitehouse these last few years. Can Grandpa make amends? Maybe he'll leave that to Kamala when she takes the throne.

It's time to move on. Do we really need a war with China? My feeling is that China will be a democracy in the near future, much better to maintain a healthy relationship with them. After all, they own most of America's wealth.

As for Covid? I was quite happy to have the Chinese vaccine. My thinking was that they broke it, they can fix it.......
I don't hate the Chinese people. I do despise their leaders. Especially what they did to hide CV19 at the outset and still continue to obfuscate to this day. Agreed a Democracy in China is very unlikely any time soon.
