I was first on here way back in about 2007 and contributed for a couple years off and on, then just faded away. But now retired and looking to spend more time in the DR, now that my mom is situated and living full time with my sister and brother in law as she was diagnosed with dementia just after I retired, I'm considering a move, possibly to Florida for a US base, but also to travel more often and for longer time periods, to the DR and elsewhere.

I do recognize some of the older board handles still posting, even have spoken to one or two in person on my last couple of trips, as well as those folks who have unfortunately passed. I'll be on here now with more frequency, reading and learning from others. Definitely a feeling of greater appreciation for the country now and looking forward to getting up to speed with some of the threads that draw my interest.

Cheers!
SMOOTH!!!! What a surprise. Looking forward to your posts.

You're getting all sentimental on us, what's up
Sentimental, say you?
Why yes... yes, indeed!

I'm actually a pinko, commie, tree-huggin' and bleeding-heart liberal. Sentimentality is in our DNA; it's the fiber that keeps sane and connected to our fellow humans.
Regretfully, I never had the chance to meet Greydread, the gorgon, JD Jones, SantiagoRD, pollogringo, and the one and only frank12, as well as mountainannie, OwnRules and some other folks here.
But I do hang out with Chiri and family periodically.

I knew in person many DR1ers thanks to the referral of my transportation services in theses forums before I moved to the US, exactly 14 years yesterday.
Greg DR expert and North coast Moderator, Hillbilly moderator Central forum DR1 news writer and Santiago City embassador, Adrian Bay was the person who first recommended my services.

We had a meeting at Centro Leon in 2006 where I met many DR1ers

I've been around almost 20 years now.

A recent 'disappearance' is our ubiquitous Cdn Gringo......

He did mention an ill family member in Canada - I hope things are OK

I'm around. "Things" are fine for the time being. Lots of power outages in my area recently. Running the fridge is more important than the computer during those times.
