The Dominican Republic will be able to enjoy a lunar eclipse and a “super moon” tonight. This occurs when the earth, sun and moon all line up, and the earth’s shadow blacks out the moon’s reflection of the solar light. The moon will be reddish in color during the part of the event when the moon passes through the earth’s umbra or darkest part of the shadow. This event will take place late Sunday and into Monday morning and then again from about 11:30pm on Monday night until around 2am on Tuesday.

It will be a strange feeling not to see your shadow in the noonday sun. But there is more. Your shadow will disappear around noon during the coming week since the sun will be directly overhead.

From around 12:30pm, the phenomenon can be seen in the southern parts of the Dominican Republic, in places like Punta Cana, La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris, Santo Domingo, San Cristobal...
