POV from Venezuela... which is certainly held by many in #Haiti AND the USA

The UN is a completely useless organization. The UN has almost zero effect on anything anywhere ever.

As for influence from and by foreign countries again being blamed for the perpetual problems in Haiti,
MA, what advantage do foreign governments gain by allegedly holding Haiti down for more or less 100 years?

Gotta blame someone, as there is no way it could be their fault.

I've long felt that every school in Haiti needs to include an anti-corruption class in every grade level that teaches children from 1st grade on what corruption is, the various ways it is carried out in every day life so they can recognize it, basic ethics, etc., with each grade level getting age appropriate education in how bad it is for the country, the economy, and how it impacts their lives and future.

For what it's worth, Haiti actually moved UP 2 points from 2020. Rated 164 out of 180 countries. https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi/2021/

The answer to your question can be found in the book "The Uses of Haiti" by Paul Farmer. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

If only there were LOTS and LOTS of free schools in Haiti
which there are not

And TEACHERS - as many of the really competent Haitians have left - and MANY are in the DR-

By a show of hands the attendees indicated that all of them had more than 10 years of formal education. All could speak and write both Kreyol and French, 14 could also read and write in Spanish and five were fluent in English as well. Yet only one had the "cedula", the identity card proving his legal residency here and giving him the legal right to work in the Dominican Republic. https://www.ipsnews.net/2009/03/haiti-dominican-republic-solace-in-solidarity/

It accused the general director of Haiti’s National Lottery of diverting more than 41 million Haitian gourdes ($300,000) with help from her brother — a legal professional — and of not charging companies operating rights, resulting in a shortfall of 269 million gourdes (more than $2 million) to the public treasury.

In addition, it found irregularities with debit cards that Haiti’s National Police issued to employees, noting that benefits illegally given to those who were fired or retired resulted in a loss of more than 18.2 million gourdes ($140,000) in the span of just three months.

It also accused the former mayor of the southern coastal town of Petit-Goave of diverting nearly 12.8 million gourdes (more than $98,000) slated for several projects.

The former official also allegedly set up city hall in his mother’s home, “putting himself in a situation where it was necessary to choose between protecting the interests of the mayor’s office or those of his mother,” the report said. It accused him of not paying taxes on the property and said money was missing from the employee payroll.

I remember years back when Haiti was the MOST corrupt of all countries on that list

I teased a Haitian NGO friend - "More Corrupt than Somalia? More Corrupt than the Congo? You should make the T-Shirt!"

He went back to Haiti and asked around -his response "How can that be when we are still so poor?"

My response:" Perhaps you are just not that good at it?"

But actually - the civil employees are VERY good at Corruption...Just there is not as much money going in...

Same thing on the DR side of the border - one customs' inspector there had a house where the DOOR alone cost over $1k US.
