Canada warns citizens traveling to the Dominican Republic due to crime and border situation

202304240152031.webp

The Canadian government has issued a warning advising its citizens to exercise caution when traveling to the Dominican Republic. The government website on travel and tourism displays a yellow alert sign, stating “Exercise a high level of caution” due to crime and the situation on the border with Haiti.
Regarding crime, the Canadian government notes that there have been reports of violent crimes in the country, particularly in large cities. However, it specifies that most of these incidents are “opportunistic crimes.” Additionally, there are “minor crimes” like theft of purses, wallets, and other valuables that tourists may experience in hotels, beaches, airports, bus stops, public transport, and other locations.
The warning also mentions robberies carried out by individuals on motorcycles or while a vehicle is stopped at a red light. To avoid any safety concerns, the Canadian government provides a list of security recommendations.
The warning about the border with Haiti highlights a “tense” situation between the two countries that may lead to incidents such as armed robberies, including “criminals dressed as police officers.” The warning also cautions that the border crossing points may close without prior notice, and there are no emergency services available near the border.

The headline should be changed. It is a travel advisory not a travel ban. It is almost word for word the same as the American travel advisory.
I am waiting to the for the group who basically had apoplectic fits about the Travel Advisory issued by the Department of State to start shouting.
There is a lot of silence.
Very curious...

Maybe they should warm Canadians about going to the US, be it a school, supermarket, a restaurant, a church, or the wrong driveway, the wrong house....basically just about anywhere in the US!!! All of my American friends and clients say the same, so this is definitely not an anti American post as they are all horrified as to the direction that America is heading as far as public safety is concerned and all of them agree that it is as safe, if not safer down here in the DR. In fact a few clients have moved here due to high crime rates where they live, although they all do come from areas that are notorious for high crime. And I can also say that Canada has had more mass shootings than we have had in the DR! Of course the situation in Haiti is dire and this does affect the DR but not one country is prepared to step in and help. The US government has asked Canada to send help but Canada has refused, probably because they will not be dictated to by the US government. Eventually international help is going to have to come. Gangs control over 60% of the capital. There were reports of about a dozen gang members being burnt alive by angry citizens just after being detained by police. The citizens are fighting back, but at what cost? The country cannot resolve their issues themselves, this is clearly obvious and so international military assistance is probably the only chance, but for how long and to what level?

This posting is deceitful ..there is no ban and the Prime Minister ,pictures in the posting did not issue the warning . The advice that has been given is that Canadians should have a high degree of caution when visiting the Dominican Republic. This is the same warning that Canada gives for numerous other countries and is the same as the Australian Government has given. Nothing more. In the advice ,Canada lists things to be careful of and all are sound.

Yes Trudeau we have a few ninis running around but I'll take living Santiago over Jacksonville's eastside and Orleans Parish (places I grew up) any day of the week. Crime is easy to avoid here.
This guy makes Canadians look like a bunch of brainless idiots.

Please explain why my the post is deceitful...reference is made to post #8.

When other countries in north america post similar warnings for its citizens...here on DR1 the majority of people indicate that they are doing it for some other reason than security.

Is Canada doing the same thing?
Are they pushing a certain political agenda using this "travel warning" (that is the language used by the article)?
If so why, and what is the agenda?
Or is it just the all the leadership in north america is "woke" and that is the reason for the "travel warning"?

I'm pretty sure that Kipling333 was referencing the title of the thread that has since been amended... and rightly so.
There really is no need to be so defensive about every little thing.
It's not good for the morale.

Since when is asking for clarification being defense?
It's not good for the morale.
What morale are you talking about?
DR1 is not a team.
It is a group of individuals expressing their opinions.

Care to address the questions I listed about the subject matter?
Or do you just prefer to give me a lecture of how I should post?
