Has anyone renewed their Dominican cédula while living abroad?
How long does it generally take?

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can get your Dominican Cedula in your nearest Dominican Consulate if you are registered as Dominican living aboard to vote. If you still have in your cedula that you are living here then you have the perfect excuse to come and get a new one but you must wait bacause now all cedulas are good even expired because they will start a process to give a new Cedula with more security and new design. Soon they will announce the date starting the change.

If there’s a Dominican consulate (or embassy) they should be able to do it for you. However, since they’re coming out with new cedulas for everyone soon, they’ve said expired ones are valid until then.

Thanks. It expires at the end of this month. No consulate or embassy near me.

Sounds like I should just wait?

There is no option. I think everyone’s cedula expires this year.

Especially in this administration. Hopefully they have enough plastics for the new cedulas. Remember the passports. Just saying…

Any Cedula that expires this year is good until the rollout of the new ones can be circulated.............
My current one is already expired and it was issued less than half a decade ago, when cédulas are suppose to be valid for a decade. I say they already knew that the new cédulas will start to come out this year, hence the expiration date which is well before it should be.

The whole allowing expired cédulas be valid until they are replaced with the new one I think was planned too.

Cedulas for non-Dominicans can only be renewed in the Dominican Republic and require your presence. Most Dominican consulates/embassies renew or issue cedulas for Dominican citizens but as stated above by other posters, this is on hold pending the availability of a new model of cedula. All cedulas of Dominicans that are expired are still valid, this is NOT THE CASE for Dominican cedulas issued to foreigners under the residency program.

I hope this helps
