We seldom look at the" other side of news stories here on DR1 as most members have hard core opinions and tend to stay with only that point of view.
I'm certainly in that category. Here is a story that gets even more convoluted than just "legal or illegal.

I´ve been hearing about this on multiple news outlests. People are desperate. They say that Haitians are trashing the place, going to the park, grabbing ducks and cutting off their heads. Some say they´re eating pets too.

I'd say "It's hard to make this stuff up" especially since (see post #18).

Springfield official denies claims of Haitians stealing and eating pets:

Whatever the truth of the matter may be...................there is/are problems to solve;

And anyone that believes the Haitians, with TPS (Temporary Protected Status) are truly temporary......is a fool.

Haiti will continue to be a problem for both the DR, US and other countries until 2121.

So, is this thread, which is now all US politics, acceptable solely because of the Haitian connection? Seems like others get shut down pretty quickly for similar stuff
The title of the thread is literally "Legal Haitians in one small town in the USA." One of the things you'll note through all of the links is that folks aren't so upset about legal Haitians - it's the illegal ones being dropped in by the thousands almost all at once without any sort of concern about the ramifications.

I understand the original intent of the thread. It has now become mainly a thread of US politics. It is really a stretch to say it is DR related, no matter what forum it is in.

I am not quite sure you do.

Well, it is about Haitians in a small town in Ohio USA and the problems/issues at hand. Separating, or trying to separate politics (US) from the article is impossible.
It is really a stretch to say it is DR related, no matter what forum it is in.
It is not DR related so much because it is in a forum titled Haiti. Nonetheless, Haiti is a subject that cannot be studied or discussed in a strictly Dominican vacuum. Haitian migration has consequences for all those countries that they are fleeing to. The US, like the DR, just happens to be one of them.....and both countries have made it a political issue.

I don't know why anyone here on this forum wouldn't believe that Haitians eat cats. Anyone that's been in the DR long enough knows that Dominicans have been known to eat cats, also, even if not to the same extent or reasons.

I have never heard that Dominicans eat cats, ever. I have been here a long (30+ years) time, heard a lot of things but never that.

I've heard it from several Dominicans. It's a barrio thing. My impression was it was more of a poverty thing and this was a while ago - not recently.

Somehow I doubt it as well, although they have been known to throw the occasional Mr Ed on the pulla! Haitians, yup cat, dog, rats, pigeons no sweat and not even out of desperation. Heck, they’d hack up and eat a cadaver if they found one on the way home from the construction site I’m told!

That’s something I’d need to see to believe. Until then, on behalf of the WaPo, I award you the following!
