Hey Guys (and Gals) let's be honest ! G-d loves this Place.
In regards to all Building Standards and Supervision (or better said the lack of them) in the DR, something like this could happen daily
but it doesn't. Go figure why !?

Not an unexpected response given the government’s actions or lack of actions the past four days. The last line sums up the situation beautifully. It’s not a political battle, it’s a war for human dignity. KC opined it wouldn’t affect the President Abinader’s legacy. I beg to differ. The biggest deadliest disaster in modern DR history and this is the approach his government is taking? The DR history books will not judge him kindly. If he is politically smart, he will try to tun this around quickly but I suspect that won’t happen. He is acutely aware of the failings of his various government agencies responsible for public safety.
It is naive to believe everything said/posted in the media. None of us know what goes on in private. Of course everyone is going to point fingers, it is a normal reaction to something of this magnitude. However, saying it will affect the Presidents legacy is a reach on your part. As expats we all have opinions on how the DR should or shouldn't do things. But is does not work that way, never has.

I agree but that doesn’t stop investigators doing initial forensic work as the debris is being surgically removed to rescue the injured and retrieve the dead as long as it is safe to do so. That wasn’t mentioned in the information released so far. Having a single engineer look for clues after all the debris has been removed limits his ability to determine the cause.
Thanks to my outstanding Intelligence and years of practice in the field of "Keyboard Detective" i finished my Report about this incident.
Here it comes:
1.) The owner altered, removed or added something to the structure that he should not have .
2.) No Government Official did care about this Place or visited it except for the motive of having some Drinks on the weekend with some over weighted hookers..
3.) There were early warning signs for month or even years that were all ignored because we all know "tomorrow" does not exist here.
So honestly... How much different you think is my "Report" from any official one that will take month or even years until finally published !?
Let's clean up this place and move on. Nothing is going to change.

It is interesting actually that Shakira recently cancelled her concert. Some here suggested it was because of slow ticket sales. I don't think that was the official reason. Maybe this country just hasn't got the infrastructure for large events like this.

Presidents, past and present, have had their legacy’s tainted by corruption. Presidents with a cavalier attitude towards public safety and the resulting significant loss of human lives also have had their legacy’s tainted. Abinader has had a good run, going after corruption and many other DR problems. He only has a short time left. He has my respect for most of what he has tried to achieve in his two terms. I’d hate to see him go out on a bad note. If he doesn’t take measures to resolve the negative media problems, it will cost him. My reach isn’t that far.

I think we can just listen to what many Dominicans are saying. They are much more critical than this forum.

The Jet Set disco didn't look big enough to be able to hold all the fans that Shakira could draw(?).

I disagree but again it is your opinion. The Dominican culture as most of us know is of the mindset/thinking that things happen for a reason, Gods will if you must. Not saying it's right or wrong. The media will always have their take on the events. Each with their own view. In the end all that matters is the facts, and we are a long way from that.

Wasn't her concert planned for the estadio olympico. Something about the reasoning for cancelling was organizational issues beyond the artists control. My point is maybe they considered it not to be up to their standards. I mean a general DR problem. Not just the JetSet venue. Hasn't the recovery also had criticism ?

The owner of the business Mr Espaillat needs to start some kind of healing process. As a starter compensate the family members of those who were in the lower end economically. Say 2 million pesos. Money is not everything but the gesture goes a long way in bringing a closerure to this tragedy. The owner is a rich fella that has the means to do this. In the DR there is no such thing as class action lawsuits.

Can we stick to the subject at hand and leave Shakira out if it?

I expect accountability, recommendations, and actions to prevent this from happening again. The same things you and I would expect as North Americans familiar with proper investigations. I would expect it even more if one of my family members was killed or injured as a result of negligence. It goes without saying the families of the deceased will never forget . Neither will DR history books. Nor should they.
I might be out of line saying this, but in my opinion, if nothing is done aside from "cleaning" the site and rebuilding, that is direct disrespect to all the victims. It's like nothing happened. I really hope it's not as it was posted that if the owner did something "not right" here, that he would not face any consequences. I hope that even in the DR that is not right.
