This article highlights the arrest for deportation of hundreds of Haitians in the Bavaro area. It also mentions that some shanty homes have been destroyed.

My Dominican friend's boyfriend is a Policia Nacional in Jamao, in the north of the country and was sent without warning, not even a change of clothes, to join the forces overseeing the operation. Apparently, it is not just shanty houses that are being destroyed but proper homes too. The occupants' belongings are being dumped in the streets. I believe it is in the area where the recent march took place, which must encourage the demonstrators.

There are multiple videos circulating of the equipment clearing away entire neighborhoods. Looks like the aftermath of a category 5 tornado

They are confronting anyone that even looks like a Haitian and asking for their papers. If they have proof of being permitted here they can go. If not they are taken away...........

Same applies to all foreigners not just the Haitians. I know several (both white and black) gringos who have been detained for not carrying an ID and had to sort it out at a P.N. or Immigration station. The most recent was about a week ago. An American I know was stopped while leaving a Casino around 11pm while walking less than a block to his hotel.

I wonder if it's because of the late hour is why your friend got stopped. Here in Boca Chica I am never stopped or bothered. Was down at Parque Enriquillo and the CZ last week with tons of police, but never got even noticed. Also didn't see any Haitians and they tend to hang around Enriquillo a lot.

Nope.
Wrong stereo type.
Button up shirts and blazer type of guy.

I myself have been stopped by immigration here in Santiago on
more than one occasion, always in the AM and each time was required
identify myself and answer a few basic questions. They are very active here
in the center of town.

Where did you see the videos?
The ones I saw were on the ListinDiario "X" page. I would imagine it would be on their IG as well.

Whoops, forgot to mention their website:

And...

Somos Pueblo sent a group to Matamosquito to film what is going on there.

What has been found is that most of the people asked for ID lacked even the most basic form to be in the country (ie. illegal immigrants). With the Haitian gangs getting close to the border and periodically saying they will enter the DR, that is not being tolerated at the moment.

As for the destruction of many of the homes, 100% of Matamosquito is built on government owned land and it was illegally built to boot.

Chinese made excavators. They would not last a day at the gold mine.

So sad, but a necessary evil, I suppose. That area would have turned into a nightmare if left there, and it was left to flourish too long.

Who thinks all of those trucks full of personal effects are going back to Haiti?

One hopes somebody from immigration follows them to see where the next hotspot will pop up.

It's pretty sinister that the journalists aren't allowed to enter the destroyed area. The only video they show of the actual destruction seems to be from a private person's phone.

I can tell you that the usual congestion at the Texaco station in Fruisa is gone. And that is a good thing at least............But construction in the area is also weakened. Some are vacant.........

If only they would do the same to La Cienaga in Cabarete... Built upon public park "protected" wetlands.
