I don't know how much experience you have in visiting Sosua, but why worry about what 10 to 20 girls look like where you are staying when you can go to the Disco, 6 blocks down the street the night you get there and pick out 1 to 3 or whatever you think you can handle from hundreds. Big John is in his late 50's to 60's and dealing with a nationality other than his own. I know as a young Black mAN i WOULD SAY TO MYSELF, when seeing someone crossing the race line, man what does he see in her. And I'm sure others said the same about me when I dated my little blue eyed girlfriend.

So like I've said, you're in Sosua ( Ho Town ), walk or drive 2 blocks towards town and unless it's 5am or 6am, you will see what you're looking for, I have never been dissapointed, even when leaving the apt. at 2 or 3am for the last 5yrs. I sure can't say that for any place in the states, can you ????

I wake up whatever time and hit the streets, and leave my female-friend wherever I'm at and if I run into someone else, I have already made arrangements at 2 places where I pay the guard or management in the morning. When I get home, she's there, no questions asked. If I'm gone for a couple of days she might look at me funny, but that's it, if there's a problem I put my clothes on again and leave if she'll let me, but no argument or fight.

So when you go there to Sosua or anywhere in the DR , it's what you make it, but all over the country, nothing but pretty , pretty, young women. After my first and second trip, I couldn't remember seeing any older women, because there were so many pretty young women, it's just unbelievable........ So again pick your own, I have reaquired my taste buds of 35yrs ago and using them to the best of my ability.......So again the Blue Dolphin is guest friendly, guest friendly, guest friendly,.................. need I say more. And probably a bargain compared to most other places in Sosua.
What is Big John up to these days? I'm an old freind.
How tourist friendly IS it? I'm thinking of visiting him

Blue Dolphin - "Danger Will Robinson Danger"

I spent a few years in Sosua in and around the Blue Dolphin and I saw many a tourist leave the Blue Dolphin with not a penny to their name and only their passport and return airline ticket home.

The Robot on Lost in Space had the perfect line to warn everyone about that Black Hole of a Hotel - "Danger Will Robinson Danger" and the not so good Dr Smith (the evil cretin from that show) would be represented in the Blue Dolphin by the wonderful ex wrestler himself Big John.

My advice to all - stay clear of the Blue Dolphin which is now a truly disgusting place. An interesting observation - isn't it funny how a property can take on the personality of its owner!

Everyone has a dark and light side

I used to live at the Blue Dolphin for around a year, long before it was a "Gentleman's Club" and a reasonably decent place, just after Big John had taken over there. I got to know him quite well and found him to be someone who would go to surprising lengths to help someone in trouble and who could also be chilling.

I don't know what he's up to these days, I hear more bad than good about him, but that can happen to the best of us in this place.

It's certainly not somewhere I would choose to go now but it wasn't all bad in the old days, and certainly much less sleazy. I have some happy memories of the place and its strange mixture of residents. It was briefly called "Margaritaville" and it was Big John himself who introduced me to Jimmy Buffet. Strange what memories this thread has brought up for me.....

Blue dolphin

Wow i was surpriced to see this thread. I have had a house in sosua for 5 years i have being going there for 10 years BIg Johns is one of the frist guys i meet. I am surprised to here he still rents rooms. How many buissnesses where started and quickly falied in that place.
All i am going to say is anyone visting sosua should always be on alert. I have meet John and have been in his place, (many many years ago.) I see him in town all the time i have never had a bad experience with him, I have heard things but there are alot of others on this board i have heard or seen doing alot worse then BIg JOhn.

Buyer be where you have entered Sosua where crime and cons come in all shapes and sizes

Blue Dolphin Experiences

If ever there was a thread that should take off I thought this one would be it. The Blue Dolphin has been like one of those tragic soap operas with one seemingly eternal villian (or should that be feral villian) and so many victims. The stories of peoples experiences at that place would give Stephen King (horror novel author) sleepless nights.

Come on fellow DR1er's bring on the Blue Dolphin experiences.

I hope we are not scared of a 400lb man in a tiny wrestlers leotard?

I am the lone survivor of the blue dolphin. John is very crafty but never out smarted me. i cant say the same for others. he is constantly on the prowl for new victims. He has moved out of the blue dolphin and is selling/building shady condos up at carib campo. Already one victim who paid for a condo that never was built. that's 2009 info

Blue Dolphin still alive?

I was a regular visitor to the Blue Dolphin 2004 to 2005. Is it still going? How about the Sosua Palace? The Dolphin web site is at LEAST four years old with no picture updates.

The Blue Dolphin is finally dead. Unfortunately the owner is not as well. The site of the "blue dolphin" is now just an apartment complex for Haitian hookers. The blue dolphin "team" has moved up the hill into carib condo's. John is now selling condo's in his new scheme to new victims in his new location. Beware

. . . and the Sosua Palace?

John always struck me as a snake oil salesman, someone I would NEVER turn my back on or get involved with in a business. He had that greasy gift of gab. Having said that, I have some similar friends that are fun to be around, I will just never trust them. Thanks, Sleazie, for the info.

I dont know what has happened to the palace. I would recomend hotel villa cheese. its next door to the playa chiquita casino. The rooms are cheap $30-50 a night including breakfast. Very girl friendly. You can do whatever you want. They dont care. any amount of chicas. great place. I lived there for 3 years.

The Sosua Palace has been dead a good 3+ years. Last I saw it (last year sometime), it was pretty run down, and looked to be serving as a squatters camp.
