Fellow Members,

:bunny: :bunny:
I'd like to share my experience with a new Hungarian Restaurant in Sosua.
It's a fairly new establishment - abouth a month old. They have of course the most typical hungarian plates, like Gulash, Paprikash, Stew, Hortobagyi stuffed crepes, roast, etc..
The food is extremely gooood and very affordable. I think the most expensive plate was around 250 pesos, but most are between 100 and 200 pesos.
The portions are BIG!
We have meet with a group of german and canadian fellows there, all had a positive experience with them.
I was able to talk to the owner - Renata, and she said they ran a restaurant in Germany 10+ years before they moved here.
Well, I could tell they are expert in great food.
I went to Sosua 2x so far and I visited them both times.
The place is on the Calle Belice. Their # is: 829-262-5256

PS.: Don't forget to try their dessert!! It's called Shomloie. ;)

Glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like we need to plan a day trip to the beach and to try this out! Of course we'll have to find beans and rice for the dama and the damitas and also too I need to get paid before we go, haha.

BTW, do the Hungarians make good sausage, bread and pastries like the Germans?

Hun, I moved this to the North Coast forum.

Must say your post made my tummy rumble. I have such good memories of Hungarian cooking - a good goulash is one of the few things that could tempt me back to eating meat.
Do they do palacsinta? I can still eat those. :)

where is it ?

Turn right at the carwash. Turn right at the end of the road. Follow the curve to the left. It is before the end of the road on the left. It says Hungarian Restaurant on the wall of the property. If you see the New Life Church tent, you went too far.

I hope to try it soon. I hope it is as good as reported.

I had an enjoyable evening there a couple of weeks ago. The owners are Hungarian but from Florida. The prices, food and "ambiance" are great. Used to be the HURCULES a hooker bar. At night they have the lights on and the HERCULES neon lights. I didn't have the heart to tell them what was there before. LOL. Don't get me wrong, it was owned by a nice Polish couple but wrong business. I spent several evenings there (Without the hookers) Anyway a great place I hope they do good.

Chip,

They make better ones! ;)

Chirimoya,

Call Renata and order it from her. I'm sure they do it for you.
Actually, they have to make it anyway for the Hortobagyi stuffed crepes.

Eddy,

The co-owners are form Florida, but they are also Hungarians.
BTW, How did you like the food?
Ex-hooker bar?? :D I had no idea. I noticed the Hercules lights, but I thought it was the name of the previous restaurant, haha.

I don't know a good Hungarian rest. in NYC however I do know many excellent and cheap Polish & Ukranian ones which I believe are similar (in the East Village).
Also
I believe Hercules was never a hooker bar. I believe it was meant to be a bar for women and their sankies. (hence the name).

thatnks but no thanks...I find the hungarian cuisine the best in the world ( for my taste ) and actually most of the dishes originate from Transylvania...the goulash & co were Szekely dishes ( a Hungarian ethnic group that today only lives in Transylvania, which today is part of Romania )....

more on the damn deserts, the Gomboc is a killer that I didn't taste for 15 years :(

Whatever. I never saw any women with sankies there. Just guys looking for pretty girls. They were trying to compete with the big players but didn't have the location. Sorry I missed you on your nights there. A nice beer by the pool with naked girls playing volleyball was fun.

if they have kurtos kalacs I am on the plane tomorrow :bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny:

korejdk,

I don't know if they can make k?rtős kal?cs, it requires some equipment.
The best k?rtős kal?cs that I ever had actually was made in Charlotte, NC by a friend of mine who is a professor at the UNCC. He is from Erd?ly originally, which is the land of the k?rtős kal?cs. :D
You are right about the lack of a good hungarian restaurant, or a bakery in NYC.
Do you remember the Rigo cukraszda? It was a great bakery. Closed in 1996.

The restaurant in Sosua will fill the void you feel for a good hungarian restaurant. And their somloi galuska is really great! ;)

Erd?ly vagyok, Vasarhely :)

Most "turists" bash Sosua for their own various reasons yet this place is really going places...all there's needed now is a proper sushi place :)
