I do not mind losing in an honest game. This casino is dishonest ,as stated in the impossible odds that any player could get even one point.Yet many players report getting 90 points quickly.

I think I all ready posted the odds of winning any money in a 3rd world casino....Do the words slim to none mean anything .

You are a pawn in an old game whereby someone says they made money so you will.

If you want the best way to lose your gambeling dollars go to vegas and they suck you dry at a slower rate so you don't feel the immidate pain.

Go to a show and get your money's worth.

A, A
Thank you for putting it so well.
My 2c:

1) Yes, there is a certain amount of 'buyer beware', naivete, and fear involved in all these stories. AND
2) This game is a scam

Here's a link, although google will turn up many more:

Antigua & Dominican Republic Casino Scam Alert!!

sound familiar?

Here're a few points to consider:

Speaking to a casino supervisor about this issue is a waste of time. You will get nowhere.
Your passport doesn't belong to you, it belongs to your government. You aren't allowed to surrender it as collateral on a debt (or a rental for that matter)
You don't necessarily need your passport to return to your country. Your country likely has an embassy, consular service, or agreement in place with a country that does. If you're getting extorted because they have your passport, call your embassy. they'll get you home
There is a legal process involved in collecting a debt. Thugs threatening you is illegal. Again, call your embassy. And your tour operator.

To say that a casino isn't responsible for the table because it is a subcontract is ludicrous. Of course they're responsible for what happens inside their walls. Otherwise every game and machine would be on a subcontract. And every waiter and barman would be an independent contractor. And the parking lot would be a separate entity.

Also, a casino requires a license to operate. For a license to be legal, it has to be issued to a hotel (there have been exceptions made). This, among other reasons, is so that there is a fixed asset for the government to attach in case the casino gets behind on its payments. For all that you subcontract to a casino, the hotel is very much responsible for what happens there. And the hotel, even if it subcontracts the casino, is still benefiting in the form of rents (or even %) and in many cases is helping collect these debts.

Personally, if I see one of these games in a casino, it tells me everything I need to know about the integrity of the whole joint -- it has none.

And for those that are all about the buyer beware: sure, they may have been suckers to have been suckered. But the people who took them for that money did it dishonestly. If you lose your money in a straight game, I have no patience for you. But if you lose your money in a ponzi scheme, or a keno game, or a rigged deck, that's a different matter. You got screwed, and you got screwed by a douchebag.

That a hotel not only doesn't help you out, but aids and abets in this is well beyond the pale. Were that to happen to me I would definitely log my complaint with the tour operator and look at lodging a complaint against your tour operator either in court or with the appropriate regulatory body back home. Win or lose, the tour operator is not going to want to fight the battle and may very well pressure the hotel to both ditch the game and refund all or part of your money.

I don't think that just because you are in a 3rd world country that you are going to get scammed it just means that you have to be much more aware of what the casino is doing and how the games are being played. It appears that the people that post on here about scams and being screwed in a casino are either amateur, novice or virgin gamblers. It doesn't matter if they have above average intelligence or grew up in a casino they should have never been playing in a casino, heck Ray Charles could have seen these scams from a mile away. Seasoned gamblers never stray from either blackjack, craps or poker.

I've palyed most of the casinos on the north coast of the DR and in Punta Cana and found most to be fair, if you're playing blackjack. I haven't been to the north coast since 2010, but I will be there next weekend, so things may have changed but most north coast casino don't have crap tables and a couple have poker rooms. IMO never play poker outside the US! The DR like a lot of other Caribbean casinos don't randomly seat poker players so you, the tourist, end up playing with locals that play together every single day, lots of room for cheating by the players.

My opinion playing blackjack at the 6 casinos that I know of on the north coast as of Nov 2010:
1. Cabarete Casino, seems to be fair and honest.
2. Sosua Casino, cards always seem to be worn, a sign that they are not changing out the deck regularly, why? Do they not want you to see them count the cards before shuffling? Poker table full of locals with the one or two tourists, not good.
3. Old Sosua Casino, seemed to be fair and they had a great night club.
4. Playa Dorado Casino(the one inside the gates and used to have a nightclub next to it named Mangu), old decor and cards were old and worn, not good.
5. Playa Dorado Casino(the one outside the gates on the main road), always seemed to be fair and on the up and up. I play blackjack there most of the time.
6. Puerto Plata Casino(the little one off of the Mallecon), frequented mostly by locals and always seemed to be fair.
7. Ocean World Casino, I've noticed that if you get on a roll it seems that a stranger would appear at the table and start playing crazy like splitting 10s and such, this has happened to me on a few occasions. I don't play there anymore.

I have played in Punta Cana at most of the hotel casinos, with the last time being just a couple of months ago, and they all seem to be fair and on the up and up with the Hard Rock being the best by far and most Vegas like. To my knowledge there are 2 stand alone casinos in PC:
1. Tower Casino, which seems to be ok, but low table limits.
2. The one in El Corticito(don't know the name), they deal blackjack funny, the same way they do in Curaco, that is everybody gets there initial 2 cards but the dealer doesn't take his last card until everyone has played. I don't play there anymore.

Lastly, I do not work for a casino nor am I involved in the casino business in any way these are just my observations from playing in the DR for the last 6 years and as a seasoned US gambler. I hope this helps.

Ok..... So here is my story I walk in the casino with a couple of buddies and this lady walks in and offers a free 20 dollar chip for this progressive roulette game we walk over there and within minutes we were up too 80 points in which we needed only 100 .. I'm too disgusted to explain it all but by the end of this exhibition they got me to give then my credit card and run a tab up too almost 5000 dollars when I went to charge it they told me that their machine was not working ... And that I had to come back in the morning. They took my identification..
Any wise words of wisdom? What I should do now that I know I got scammed.. ? I'm definately too scared to try and beat them for it ... Especially cause I will be here for.another couple days.

Go to the nearest airport and go home, wear a really good disguise so they do not recognize you walking out of the hotel!
If they have your passport you may be up the creek without a paddle.
Was this Sosua Bay Hotel Casino as well?

Pedro, Tambo gave you an explanation a few months ago. It's not like you to be so forgetful.

Catcher, nope, he gave no info on a scam, just a game with lousy odds.

Scam implies dishonesty or cheating.

Where was the dishonesty or cheating for any of these so called scams?

I'll give you this one for free Catcher...

The only scamming going on in this game is at the beginning they might add your numbers up and make a mistake in the punter's favour that the punter may or may not notice.
If the punter does notice and does not say anything because the bigger score helps the his plight then shame on the punter.
If he does not notice then shame on him for not adding up his own score, like you would in blackjack, roulette or craps.

Other than that no cheating happens.

Just a sucker getting fleeced and having post sucker anxiety about it in the morning.

DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME.

knowing the game and the scam there - i tried to play them at their own game with my free chips - i played the "stupid" tourist and got him to explain - real simple how the game works.

For some reason - they wernt too keen on letting me add up my own score.

Just dont understand that! :surprised they got to keep the game moving see!

I went on to Play Roulette - and I came out 1500 up! I was very happy - very drunk and spent it on a Early breakfast in the Caprini bar!

Casinos are fun - an "investment" for entertainment - as long as you only play what you are happy to lose - and pass the time with that money - with the free drinks you can come out "winning".

Dont Play the casino if you expect to come out up!

Where's the scam? Casinos play on greed. Don't go in thinking you are going to walk out a winner. Casinos would not be in business if everyone won! And they're giving you free chips to lure you into playing this game? Did you park your turnip truck outside?? Come on!!! LOL
