    Coronavirus - In the DR

Sweden is a very socially responsible country, so the comparison isn't so good. They may not have shutdown but people behaved themselves. Also, the swedish elderly paid a high price and even the Swedes say too high. Search on the BBC for more articles. If everyone pulled in the same...

    Window Fans -- why not?

Apologies in advance as this borders on the inane, but why don't dominicans use window fans? The wind dies at night, but it usually comfortable outside, but still warm inside the brick/cement houses. Also, my GF is downright religious about locking all the windows when leaving the house, so...

    Puerto Plata - O2 Concentrator.

https://customsdutyfree.com/customs-or-import-duty-for-medical-equipments-to-dominican-republic/ If (big if), I read this right: No duty, but you can still get hit on the CIF of 18% for over $200. I suspect EPS was doing me a favor my miscategorizing my items or it's just good luck on my part.

    The future of Sosua

Re: sewage - it's relative, but the problem with nutrients is that probably not what you think as it has more to do with the missing herbivores which are heavily spearfished. No herbivores means no algae clearance and that combined with nutrients will kill coral. re: hi-rise - good lord, is...

Thinking of buying a car. Need solid advise .

I'd find an agency close to where you are that imports slightly used cars. Or, find a good mechanic that can evaluate a private party cars. Facebook marketplace has a constant parade, but be very cautious.

Half of the businesses that closed won’t reopen

I think the DR needs to choose between the EU/UK and the USA because given the current state of the pandemic, they can't do both. In the EU/UK, they are dealing with a few 100 cases/day, but in the United States, there is currently 50,000/day. I think if the DR could knock down its...

    The future of Sosua

btw, +1 to improving the Sosua Beach. It would be **amazing** if the corals were allowed to grow back, but that would take the tourists only using coral-friendly sunscreens and not walking on them. Can we do a go fund me?

    Coronavirus - In the DR

Mine works. Looks like cases are starting to subside although deaths are up which makes sense as a lagging indicator.

    Puerto Plata - O2 Concentrator.

That strikes me as odd. I've never had a problem sending medical stuff through. I try to help some elderly women in the barrio here and I'm always sending for blood sugar tests and their machines, and I've never been dinged for them...

DR government contracts GE to service new 752MW power plant

It's academic at this point, but you just site them 20+ miles off the coast were they are rarely (if ever) visible. Anyways, I'll not argue any further on what is a hypothetical. You can find problems with anything if that is what you are looking for.

    Puerto Plata - O2 Concentrator.

Not much. A I'm not sure, but they cataloged my O2 Concentrator as a "Air Purifier" and a CPAP that treats my brand of apnea as a "humidifier". At least, on these smaller items (each is worth about $1200), they didn't ding me via EPS. Another mitigating thing is that the shipments...

as the saying goes, don't count your chickens before they hatch. Every vaccine to date has required at least 7 years to develop. Granted we have better technology and multiple irons in the fire, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. That said "hope for the best and plan for the worst".

DR government contracts GE to service new 752MW power plant

I hear the nations around the North and Baltic seas are working on a 32 Giga Watt project based on wind and solar where they can. The size is really astounding.
